Trailer bearings wear out ultra quickly.

I wanted to circle back. It’s time for new axles and am ordering them from Eastern Marine (thanks!). Best to do this with the boat off the trailer I presume? Also, is it as easy as bending off the old u bolts and bolting new axles to the leaf springs? The springs are only 2 years old, so I...

    Outboard lifter was struggling.

Today I noticed one of my lifters seemed to be struggling so I took off the anode and saw a few metal seals on the shaft that were slowing the shaft down. Do I need to worry about these? Do I need to replace them? Pictures below. Boat is used in saltwater. Thanks.

Mini split outdoor condenser rodent guard advice

Thought I’d close the loop here. Spent last weekend building my cage. Not the prettiest thing, however it is behind the garage and no one sees it and I’d rather not replace it again. I drove four studs into the brick for easy removal for service. If I did it again, I think I would have designed...

    Gambrel roof- cubby

Our house is a 2 story, with a gambrel roof. What I want to do is cut a small cubby into the empty space in the gambrel roof “dead space” to create an area for the cat box. I believe there is dead space on the second floor between the interior wall and the exterior roof from the second floor to...

Mini split outdoor condenser rodent guard advice

Thanks guys. Fair point on the little guys getting through anything. It’s mounted a foot off the ground and they got it. I was going to put poison down but we have hawks and I don’t want to poison the hawks if they eat a poisoned mouse. A cage will be a paid to build but I’ll get some real tight...

Mini split outdoor condenser rodent guard advice

Hello all. I have a wall mounted outdoor condenser for my Cooper hunter mini split unit. Mounted last year. Picture below as a reference. The mice got in, destroyed it and now I need to replace it. Not wanting to experience that ever again, I’m going to build a cage to go over it with easy to...

    Lower unit lifter. Solenoid?

I wanted to circle back here. When wintering the boat yesterday, I noticed that the only way to lower the lower unit was to press the down button on the throttle. The only way to lift it was to use the “trailer” button on the throttle. The “up” part of the lift/lower button on the throttle...

How to build a front middle cushion support

Hey everyone. Could use some creativity here. On my 2000 searay sundeck 210, there is a cushion that goes in the fron to make one continuous “bed”. My boat didn’t come with the support for the cushion, just the cushion. I can’t find a replacement online. So I built one. It last until this year...

Trailer bearings wear out ultra quickly.

Had a question and hope it isn’t a crazy one. Just to get me to the off season- could I just remove the outer nut and put a large washer on to keep the rim on the existing axle for when the existing bearings blow out? Again I only driving the trailer around the boat yard- maybe a mile or two a...

Trailer bearings wear out ultra quickly.

I agree. Thank you. I did have one question. I went to etrailer.com to look for new axles. I found the right axles that match two out of three measurements that etrailer recommends taking. The outer length is 95 inches on my axle- good there. The bolt to bolt (wheel mounting bolts) distance is 2...

Trailer bearings wear out ultra quickly.

Thank you. Here are some pictures of my axle (kind of pitted) and current speedy sleeve. I installed this sleeve in 2016. Note that it’s chewed up a bit and I placed it on the inner “thicker” part of the axle. Please note it slides on perfectly wellI; doesn’t need to be pushed on with any force...

Trailer bearings wear out ultra quickly.

Thank you. I’ve used speedy sleeves before with good results. I’ll try those. My challenge with them in the past is getting them all the way towards the “back” of the axle; the ones I’ve used are about two inches long and the axle is closer to 6”, so the speedy sleeve is just for the inner seal...

Trailer bearings wear out ultra quickly.

Very helpful. Thanks. I installed speedy sleeves about 6 years ago but I think I got ones that are too big in diameter. They likely let salt water in. I just replaced the leak springs two years ago so replacing the axles is not preferred. I’ll look into the speedy sleeves. Question on the...
