I have a 2006 Merc 5.0 TKS with an intermittent alarm. From what I understand there are 3 reasons the alarm would go off.
1) Oil Pressure. Always between 40-80.
2) Temp. Varies between 160 - 178 depending on load. I just replaced the thermostat to be sure that wasn't the issue and...

I pulled my drive for normal maintenance, water pump impeller etc and everything looks ok except for an engine alignment and there appears to be about 2mm of play in the gears in the upper unit. I've attached a pic to show what I mean. This may not even be a valid test... The u-joints...

Now I'm feeling like an idiot. The only other place I can get a good look at the timing sticker is looking down to the left of the power steering pump. I still don't understand what I'm supposed to line the timing mark up with.

Ok I got my service manual, timing light and jumper cable. Everything is hooked up and working, now I'm looking for where to line up the white timing mark and I don't see anything. Am I missing a piece here or am I looking in the wrong spot?
