I took my 82' SeaRay 240 (single prop Ford 260) out yesterday....
everything was good on the way out stayed between 2500-3000 rpm - went about 2 miles - stopped for a few hours to fish ...THEN
cruising back at about 2500 we were going for about 15 minutes and the rpms spiked up to 5000-6000...
On my way to Catalina - I was out about 9 miles from shore, engine was running great - temp good, oil pressue good, 14 volts -- full tank of gas.. Then there was a noise coming from lower engine - like a card in the spokes type sound, slowed down/sped up with the throttle
I stopped -- checked...
