i have a 1996 25hp merc. the starter motor keeps sticking. i have taken it out of the metal casing and given the copper ring a light sanding .I wasn't sure if this would help but it seemed like a logical thing to do. it made no difference. after about 20 starts the starter motor jammed again...

Having started normally several times that day my engine would not fire up.
Once home i could hear a clicking in the engine when i turned the key but nothing more happened. Having read through the posts on this site i have tried the following:-
