I have an 89 40 hp Johnson that boggs, but picks temporaraly when the chock button it pushed. Is this indicitive of a carb problem or a fuel pump?

Can any one tell me in detail how to check my stator with a meter? I have a meter and don't know exacly how to use it very well. I believe I may have stator problem on the slow speed side. Any advice would be deeply apreciated.

When I sqeeze my fuel bulb I noticed one of my carb jets is spurting fuel. What would cause this? And would this cause my motor to bog or miss at low rpms? It runs great at high rpms.

Can any one tell me if a 1990 50hp lower unit will fit on a 1984 70hp? Also I checked the compression and the they read 125 122 105. What do you guys think of those numbers? The 105 has me concerned.
