It is in fact a Vortec engine and it's in a 21' Blue Water CC that I regularly run to Catalina Island so I can't really rule out the overworked idea but at least now with the new plugs in I'm not afraid to try to start it. Thank you people.

Was told running a different spark plug (not as hot) may help with a deisleing problem I am having
The manual calls for a AC-45MRT plug. The replacements have a longer shaft and I'm concerned about them making contact with the piston. Is that possible?

Had this out a few weeks ago and it shifted and ran fine but was dieseling when I shut it off. I set the timing, idle and changed plugs. Next I was told to change the impeller. I had the two bolts above the...
I think there's between 50 and 55 hours on the plugs. They appear to be burnt right under the letters ACDelco. Also I was told these plugs are not the right ones for vortec heads which I have.
Following the list of suggestions for getting rid of the engine dieseling problem I've had. First thing I checked was the timing and it was advanced. I have clear hoses going to and leaving my thermostat. I shut down before fixing the timing because there was no water showing in the hoses. I'm...
My thanks to all of you, I now have a direction. Gas lines, plugs, timing, better fuel.... I can handle that. hot spots in the cylinders, not sure what to do about that. make it last on the list and hope it's fixed before I get that far.

At idle, wot and everywhere in between it runs fine. The problem I am having with it only occurs when I turn it off. With the key in the off position, it keeps trying to run. Not in a smooth way, the engine kind of coughs...
I got the tools from different merchants for around $10 ea. They were all from Amazon so unlikely genuine Merc. The last thing I tried was a 6 point torque. Very little meat left to grip inside the pin but I will try again with the opposite side of a new tool with chemicals and applied heat...

A week ago I came on asking for help removing a stuck outdrive. You all got me through that but it came out with the gimbal bearing seized to the drive shaft so bad a hammer didn't budge it. A couple days of cutting, grinding, heating...
Round two with the 2x4 it was down for the count. Did someone say rusty u joints and a gimbal bearing seized to the shaft? The way it was running on the water I expected to find a bunch of broken pieces when I opened it up but did not. The main bellow had no water or gear oil and only some minor...
Looks like another busy morning with the wood. To a beginner like myself, these forums are an absolute life saver. I can't thank you people enough for all your input. My first thoughts went towards crow bar, wedges and Grub's hammer. So glad I refrained.
I tried the 2x4 and ended up with 1/16" gap. It's very loose. I can shake it up and down as well as sideways. But it will not slide off and I've been trying all morning. I attached a pic and avi file if you wouldn't mind looking at it and see if I'm doing it reight
I don't understand. what is a shift dog? is it where the cable from the front connects to the back? the remote is still in forward position. the shift shaft is still facing forward and can only turn the prop clockwise from behind.
