    Shifting problems

2004 50hp Mercury 4cyl 4stroke EFI on a 17' Alumaweld. I have a side mounted control box. Shifting has never been as smooth as I would like it to be even after I had a shop adjust the cables. According to my manual the adjustment didn't align the cables correctly but I assumed they knew what...

    Water in the Oil +

Last year it overheated a few times. Once bad enough to melt part of the impeller and water tube. After fixing that I've had it out several times with no problems at all until now.

    Water in the Oil +

By "pitch motor" do you mean toss it or throw it away? I mainly use this in the ocean and it has an open cooling system.

    Water in the Oil +

84 Mercruiser 5.7l sterndrive, 4bbl, open cooling system. Last time out it back fired a couple times starting it and seemed normal running just above idle through the no wake zone. Once through I accelerated but didn't have enough power to plane out. Wouldn't go above 15mph. The oil dipstick...

    2004 Mercury 4 stroke, 50 hp, EFI won't accelerate.

Motor starts up and idles fine. Put it in gear at idle and it takes off at about 2mph like it always has. No issues until I attempt to accelerate. Then it acts like it wants to go for maybe one second before it starts to bog down and eventually die unless I bring the throttle back to an idle. A...

    Need help identifying engine

1984 Mercruiser 5.7L 260HP 350CI Sterndrive Alpha One Gen One. The only tag I've found is from a Quicksilver re-power several years ago. Makes it difficult ordering parts. I brushed off some coorosion today and found the block is stamped between the intake manifold and the fly wheel housing with...

Starter starts something spinning in the back of engine only, nothing in the front.

That's correct but prior to that, the entire ignition was turning in the console as I turned the key. I imagine something broke off internally. My next project. Thank you nola mike.

Starter starts something spinning in the back of engine only, nothing in the front.

Hey Lou C: I appreciate you responding. Those two bolts have taken up almost two days of my time and so far I've removed one. Had to grind down a 14mm box end to fit between the bolt and the fly wheel cover. Fortunately, I'm retired. I'm going to take your advice regarding which starter to...

Starter starts something spinning in the back of engine only, nothing in the front.

84 Mercruiser 5.7L, 260 sterndrive, alpha one gen one. Last time out was beginning of March with no issues, ran fine. Expecting the grandkids in a few weeks so I filled up a large tote with water today, lowered the out-drive and went to start it to be sure it was still running fine. The starter...

Swapped Thunderbolt IV for Delco EST

I replaced my thunderbolt IV ignition system with a Delco EST due to a lack of spark. With the tach and the shift interrupter switch disconnected for the first start up attempt it showed the no spark problem was fixed as there were bursts of flames shooting out of my Rochester 4 barrel carb...

I don't know where or even what the amplifier is. Can you tell me if it is in this picture

Did my new coil die after one hour use.

I don't know. Would I find the module or points depending on which one I have under the rotor? Cranking it over with a test light on the + side of the coil, the light flashes on and off. Would it do that if the module was bad?

Did my new coil die after one hour use.

I have a 1984 Mercruiser 5.7L stern drive. My distributor cap contacts were green and corroded. Rotor contact looked just as bad and was seized to the shaft which was rusted. I had to cut it off. Before installing a new one, I emery clothed all the rust off the shaft. The nuts on the pos. and...
