I think my 40 hp mariner is a mid to late 80s model but I'm not sure. Its a Japanese made mariner 40E, serial #6E9 L 407160. I'm having trouble trying to find this out. Can anyone help me out? Thanks
Hi, I recently bought this 40 hp mariner 2 stroke motor. When in the water and I put it in reverse I get this growling noise. Also not much thrust, which probably is normal. It goes in gear ok and works, but my concern is the noise, which I don't get when I'm going forward. Only in reverse...
The lower unit of my japanese made mariner has a drain/ fill hole, a vent hole and one in between those two. The top and bottom openings have washers on the screws that plug the holes, but the middle one does not. All it has is a real smooth washer like finish on the inside of the screw head...
Hi, my question is short and simple. How much gear oil should a 1983 japanese make mariner hold? I could only get about 12 or 13 ounces in it. That doesn't seem like very much. Is this normal? Thanks
