3L SX-A outdrive. Outdrive level. Filled from bottom till ran out vent hole, topped up a little to top of indented part of dipstick, removed vent plug to make sure it was not overfilled- considerable amount of oil started coming out.

A "Kickout" I believe are indeed the two "boxes" on either side of the outdrive under swim platform.
Has anyone tried to pour 2 part (closed cell) foam into a kickout? Tips would be good as 1. I don't want the 30x expansion of this foam to crack the hull??

Kickout got water in it, Dug out old and ready to pour in new. Has anyone done this?
Any issues with expansion and cracking of hull or gelcote exterior?

The foam I dug out seems not overly dense, does anyone know if this is just flotation foam?

Thanks for the great replies, have a Marina (Hurst Marina) who said they do helicoil all the time. Easy as this job appears as DIY I think I'll bring it to them although I agree a time sert makes more sense. I would silicone top each year in case of leaks
I read a Threadsert may be the way to go?
Can anyone confirm the thread gage for SX-A outdrive thread and/or dipstick thread?
Can I take the top off carefully, insert threadsert and just re-use the shims/gasket if ok?
Can the dipstick be reused with threadsert as this will widen top hole?

Thanks to all for the excellent thoughts. I should mention the water is only on one side. The only obvious hardware- the tie downs aren't loose, not sure how I can tell if they are leaking. Guess I'll silicone around them?

. Discovered water in foam which fills side cavities behind transom (kickouts?) Its about a foot and a half square. Transom wood has absorbed some moisture but still solid. how to remove foam without destroying transom??!?

Have leftover SAE 30 synthetic as specified in manual. Can I mix this what the marina recommended which is 25/40 synthetic? Do we agree 25/40 is a good viscosity for 3L carb'd engine? (Canada)
