Throttle cable will not slow magneto plate back. Will advance spark, but cable stays slack and bunches up when you twist it back to slow on steering arm.
Bought a good looking 4 hp Johnson, 98 year model, but no fire either cylinder. What should I check first? Does it have a power pack? Can I get the condensersm coils checked somewhere? JHave more time than money.

Still no fire, no shock even while holding and pulling starter cord on either plug. Plugs are normal sooty so it has run, has compression and iis in like new condition other than this. Bought it cheap, but got it from flea mall where some guy did not know history of it. Getting ready to pull...
Bought a Johnson 4 hp (mod J4BRECJ) that is cosmeticly very clean, but no spark. No history on motor, but has compression. Took both plugs out and they have been used, but no juice as I held them and pulled the flywheel over. Where should I start working to get fire?
