Johnson 4hp (98 model) no spark

Bought a Johnson 4 hp (mod J4BRECJ) that is cosmeticly very clean, but no spark. No history on motor, but has compression. Took both plugs out and they have been used, but no juice as I held them and pulled the flywheel over. Where should I start working to get fire?

Welcome to iboats. http://www.evinrude.com/en-US/Accessories/Literature/ go to this link. follow prompts to your engine , look are ignition diagram. 1st make sure the stop switch is not stuck or the wires shorted. it grounds the coils so no spark. if you have to pull flywheel a harmonic balancer puller works well, but use #8 hardened bolts as standard bolts will strip off. good luck.
