I have a recently aquired 74 Rude 115hp. I have spark on all 4 but its weak, and I can see electrolyte dripping and dried from the charge coils on the stator so I figured i may as well start by replacing it. I have the terminal ring style power pack.

I was ready to take it out for the fist time tomorrow and found the steering cable was frozen (when i went to connect it).
I cannot free up the cable (at least not yet) so will most likely have to purchase another. My question is has anyone had any trouble sourcing the correct part number for...
how critical is this? can i run without it and just watch for crap in the water?
Mine is broken in 3 pieces, but it was really only one bar that runs down the middle of the intake area... not much of a "screen".
Can i fabricate my own out of aluminum?

Need a new ride plate and grate, so the old ones are currently off
I have been trying to start it in the driveway (flush kit attached), but have only been able to get it to idle for about 5 seconds
Could this be because of a lack of back-pressure from not having the ride plate installed...
The ones I have in the boat are NGK BUHW (surface gap). Are these correct?
Are the BUHW-2's better? I have also seen BUZHW.
I just pulled and cleaned the carbs and it still wont run for more than a second or two without holding open the throttle (even then it dies). Trying to replace the plugs...
Ok.... picked up a 93 jazz last a couple weeks ago for $500. Very stoked. Cleaned up all the electrical issues. I replaced a few switches in the dash and replaced starter. Motor seems to be good (compression etc), but I am reluctant to fire it up bc the previous owner pulled off the back housing...
