    Back from a great vacation. I tried just squinting some pb blaster on the joints and it smoothed up pretty good. But per my usual course, my neurotic nature got the best of me and I removed the whole thing to replace the seals. So here we go with

    And never mind on Q2: i got impatient and ended up wrapping the shift shaft in a towel and clamped on some vice grips, then tapped (ok more than a trap) the vice grips aggressively and the bushing reluctantly came out.
