Trying to find what year and HP, Model of old Evinrude.Has the # R 19 P stamped on clamp bracket,it's a twin 2 cycle and has a Tillotson carb. Copper soldered tank with a tag full of patent dates from 1911 to 1919 w/tag that states motor # N 2194? Thanks Dave

Well, in 1927, there was a model R Evinrude. It was a 4hp model. Does the outboard say Evinrude on it anywhere?

Re: Trying to ID old Evinrude

A little more research shows that the Evinrude R Sportwin did use a Tillotson carburetor, as well. That would make it a 1927 or 1928 model.

Check and see if you can find a model number on that carb. If it's a MS-4A, then that matches the 27-28 R Sportwin. If it's an MS4B, it matches the 1929 R Sporttwin.

Re: Trying to ID old Evinrude

There was a model N along about that time, too. The carbs are often broken or missing as they used a cheap pot metal in that era. Early models had the soldered tank, while later ones had a spun cast tank. They can be made to run quite nicely, although some flywheels may need to be re-magnetized...<br /><br />- Scott

The Model N, a 2.5 hp outboard, used the Tillotson MS3A carb.
