Trim Tilt switch

Changing my starter noticed a wire with insulation rotting off on my 1966 120 hp Mercruiser with a 1974-1976 alpha outdrive. The wire is one of two going through the transom directly behind the Center of the engine and goes into the outdrive. I’m assuming they are for the trim tilt switch. Everything I read says the trim tilt switch is located on the port left side of the gimbal ring on the transom assembly. I don’t see a trim tilt switch. Looks like something might have been mounted but nothing there now? So where are these wires going?

Old "nail" style drives had the trim switch at the top of the gimble ring.
It's not an Alpha.

So drive has to come off to access?

A.I. is telling me exterior trim tilt switch might have been replaced with a jobber interior limit switch. Will check for that when I get in the boat.

I ran temporary wires from my tilt switch up and over transom to inside boat. After finishing the season proper repair was made.
Outdrive has to come off, then accessing two bolts that secure wire and grommet is a real *****.
Replace charge pump hose to engine while you're in there

This is 60 years old. Don’t think you’ll find parts. And honestly not sure why you would want to. Could be trim, could be tilt. Either way it probably hasn’t worked for 40 years.
