Change in my job responsibilities. I will be working from home, same salary, same all expense paid company vehicle, same deluxe insurance and required to use all of my vacation. I get 2-1/2 hours a day of my life back not driving 83 miles each way to work. I will continue to travel, probably even more but that also racks up the hotel points and miles. I guess I will never retire why would I? Zen sitting at the desk in bedroom office looking at the lake.

Worked from home for 10 years after they closed the local manufacturing operations.
Assigned to our office in San Diego for 2 years then transferred to our operation in Germany for the remainder.

Had a love hate relationship with the job.
Since I was no longer a department head, I had plenty of time to jet set around the Globe as a fixer and deal maker. Spent 60-75% of my time away from home. Great for my career, but was home less than when I went in the office everyday.

The downside….loneness for lack of a better word. Missed going into the office and interacting with people. Missed the after work get-togethers, happy hours, company softball team practice, etc.
I guess I will never retire why would I?
Between SS and my 401, I would take home more in retirement than I am right now.

At this point, only working to keep the company afloat for the sake of my co-workers. Will probably stay another 15 months to max out my SS payments then retire.

Good for you Mark.
Wife works from home, and has for 12 years. For the most part she enjoys it, but she does tend to work more hours with her office being here.

From someone that has been there.... Take the retirement when you can....we have no idea what the future holds !! We planned for our retirement, nothing high class, just comfortable. Bought a used motor home to try out traveling. Was great for two years, then wife's health went to hell. Nothing her fault, just bad luck. After multiple back and hip surgeries she is now in a wheel chair with much difficulty in getting around.
Wish we would have taken an earlier retirement just to have a few more years of being able to do some fun things. Your health can be great, then within one year you can become disabled with no prior indications. Retire when you can and enjoy each day you have, as we have no idea what the future holds !!
