I have a 1963 Johnson CD-19 5.5hp. I am trying to find a fuel line for it. I picked up one that says it fits Johnson outboards and was a 3/8 inch line, but like my luck goes it does not fit this motor. It has a rectangular end and wont fit the connection on the motor. Do these older motors take a special fitting? Should I have gotten the 5/16? Any help i can get would be great. Thanks!

These motors used the same gas line connecter from about 1960 to the 1990's----Yes the 5/16" hose will work fine.----Picture of your motor fitting ?

Perhaps you bought a look-alike Yamaha fuel line? As for 5/16 or 3/8, either will work on your small motor. But the big gas guzzlers need the larger 3/8.

Could be. It was an Amazon purchase lol

Buy the one that is marked Evinrude/Johnson -- might save frustration if you buy both the female and male connectors. 5/16 line, as indicated.

Is there a difference in the fittings for 3/8 and 5/16? I know the actual hose is different size.
The one I bought was supposed to be for a johnson/evinrude lol.

The only difference in the OMC connectors is the hose barb, where the hose slips/clamps on.

Gotcha. Well sounds like I will be returning this hose and looking for a better one. Cheap Amazon crap strikes again lol.

Chinesium parts and everything fits.-----3/8" hose was often specified for V-6 motors.-----5/16 is adequate for smaller motors.

Thanks. Only reason I got the 3/8 was it was a really good price.....if it worked. Im starting to think this one maybe for a different brand motor and seller just guessed what it fit. The hole in it that snaps over the fuel fitting is also a larger diameter than the one on my motors connector. That was why I wondered if there was different sizes.

If you buy both ends of the connector, it won't matter what you buy. It may not mount neatly on the motor, but the fuel feed will be fine. Buy whatever fits your fancy and pocketbook.

If going by looks, compare Nissan, Yamaha, and OMC. Buy the OMC if trying to find a fit for the one on your motor. Wouldn't hurt to take the old one with you, even if damaged. Be aware that the new O-ring on a replacement part will likely fit much tighter than the old one.

Just so we are all clear. 3/8 hose works for motors up to 500hp. A little 5hp came with 5/16"

@nick1982 yes, the fitting size must match the hose size.

Sounds like progress. Suggest you pressure test the gearcase before getting into seal replacement. Maybe you have done that.
