Same hardener used for V ester and Polyester?

I have been laying up my stringers with V ester and was given a special hardener to decrease 'fizzing' or so I was told, I am now out of this stuff.<br /> Can I use the plain polyester hardener instead of this special stuff with V ester and not hurt the work? thanks and a Merry Christmas to all.<br />Even125

As far as I know the MEKP used as a catalyst is the same for both products. Dangerous stuff to say the least.<br /> Catalystis MEKP see? <br /><br />Hope you are using a chemical respirator!

Use saftey equipment with MEKP.Me,I use it all the time but once,got it in my eyes.I knew what to do,and did it.Still had to call 911 to get help.Man,did I feel like a big A@@!When the meat wagon got me to the hospital,the Dr.didn't know what to do,till I told them!<br />Read up on the stuff before messing with it.

Thanks for that.<br />They said it was MEKP when I bought it but told me it was a different formula, does anyone know if normal catalist it can be used? This resin might be the exception to the rule. The V ester/special catalyst does fizz more than the iso resin/normal MEKP I noticed.<br /> Wondering if it was just sales pitch because it was slightly more expensive for the same volume. Hopeing to make some more sense of this, there is nothing specific I found searching here, I will try again.<br /> I really dont want to chance causing a real layup problem. The shop will not be open again until after my window to get some layup done is over, otherwise I would have given them a ring. Ok I got some more info on this today the substance they gave eme was an extra slow gell time catalyst, hence the fizz they spoke about, works better for the climate I am living in. thanks and a safe christmas break. even125
