No Spark???

1997 E-Rude 225 Looper, (ALL NEW ELECTRONICS) went to start it up today and no spark, started TS and found that if I disconnected the ground (Black wire) at the CDI hold down bolt. It would fire but stop as soon as I returned the key to run position. Disconnected shift switch, no change. Checked wires at ignition switch, all good.
What else do I need to check?

Check for a ground somewhere along its length and also check for faulty key switch

Nope but if it grounds out to something then it will put ground to the motor which stops it. Check using a $10 digital meter that it isnt shorting to ground along its route. It may of frayed at some point, ive seen that happen
