Might as well make the Championship race a little more interesting.

Who struts away at the end of the trace on Sunday as the last Sprint Cup Champion? A repeat for Shrubby as defending Champion? Does Mr. Six Time become Mr. Seven Time? Maybe Logano can win his first Cup Championship. Can Edwards win one after losing 100 penalty points early in 2008 and missing by 31 points or coming down to and losing the tie breaker against Stewart in 2011?

A poll is at the bottom of the post.

This is not only the weekend where the Cup Champ is crowned - X-Men and Trucks also have Championships to decide. And Rookies Of The Year in the three series. Chase Elliott is heading the Cup field. Erik Jones is currently leading the rookie race and is the X-Chase. Trucks Christopher Bell is currently the ROTY leader and is in the Chase.

The Championship Week schedule from MRN; home16.PNG

Weather should be no problem this weekend.

News and Notes
  • Toyota is closing in on it's first Manufacturer Championship. If a Toyota team finishes 26th or higher, they got it after Chevy has owned it for the past 13 seasons.
  • Attendance is up and revenue down at the Nascar Hall of Fame. The blame is being placed on less bookings at the convention center next door.
  • Penalty report - Shrubby had post-race lugnut issues with a 10 grand fine for his crew chief. Keso failed laser and template inspection 5 times and 6 other teams flunked laser or template inspection.
  • Tony Stewart has a special paint scheme to highlight his final full-time Cup race. With Smoke's retirement, Clint Bowyer takes over the #14 next year.
  • Only Kyle Larson with play Buschwhacker this week. He is trying for a 3peat. Shrubby can't due to the new rule instituted mid-season that Cup Chasers can't run the lower series at Homestead. It will more restrictive next year.
  • More restrictor plate racing? X-Men will test using plates at Indy in 2017 and if the test is deemed successful, Indy will join Daytona and Talladega plate racing.
  • A change in race weekends? Under consideration is cutting the length of the weekends from 3 to 2 days. Most venues schedule 3 days, Friday to Sunday, this proposal will compress the event to 2 days in hopes of adding to ticket sales.
  • TV ratings - Almost matched Darlington as the highest rated Chase race, but not quite.

Another 2 time iFL winner. boatman37 took the :first: at Phoenix. Congrats Mr Two-Time. :D
The overall race may be all but over. Trackchick Stars pulled away from 64osby and it may be too much for 64 to recover in this last race.
All good things must come to an end and the 2016 iFL contest is no exception. Some of us enter the final race fighting for pride and honor, while others are grinning. The final results come on Tuesday when the official numbers come out. Good Luck everyone.

i went with Joey. I think at Homestead Joey and Carl are the best of the 4 but Carl has been hot and cold all year. of the 2 Joey has been the better throughout the year. kyle may get it but unless he has some fluke issue i see Joey winning it

The final 2016 qualifying is in the books, Harvick is sitting on the pole, followed by Keselowski, Newman, Hamlin, Elliott, Truex, Kenseth, Blaney, Shrubby, Edwards Stewart and Allmendinger.

Chasers Shrubby and Edwards will be starting side by side in row 5 and Logano and Johnson are starting in row 7.

Smoke said during a media meet that Sunday is his very last Cup race and wouldn't even fill in for one of his drivers. Said Gordon taught him something by doing a favor filling in the #88 and ended up roped into running half a season. He quipped "Thanks, Jeff"

The first Champion of the weekend. Johnny Sauter finished in 3rd and as the highest Chaser, he gets the Truck crown. All 4 of the Chasers finished in the top 10.

The race was won by William Byron, who takes the Rookie honors with 8̶ 7 wins.

X-Champ is crowned tomorrow afternoon.

Only one Champ to determine now that X-Men has been decided. Daniel Suarez win the Homestead X-Race and the Championship. Sadler came in 3rd, Allgaier in 6th and rookie Erik Jones was 9th. Jones should take Rookies honors.

Cup race is 2:30 Eastern tomorrow.

I just finished the Indy 500 yesterday. Not a bad race. Talk about the winner running the fuel to the max..... The wife laughed. Of course, I replied "what"????

The poll is closed. Not a lot of votes, but not one for Shrubby. Joey Logano was the iFL winner.

Johnson, Logano and Edwards had troubles getting through pre-race inspection. They were finally cleared a few minutes ago and took the cars to the grid.

About 20 minutes before the flag drop. There will be an extra pace tribiute lap for Smoke's final Cup race.

I'll have to watch the race from my deerstand... Maybe I'll catch the end of it, which will be the best part anyway...

Here we go with a Championship on the line for Johnson, Edwards, Logano and Shrubby.

The last Green Flag to start a race this year.

Johnson had to start at the rear for unapproved body mods. Not the way to go for #7!

Gee, #48 trying to cheat? Shocker.....

My body sez, "take a nap". My eyes say, "time to go back to the hut".
