hey again guys, the boat was running great all summer until the last 2 times i was out. basically when you first get out there everything is perfectly normal. then if i stop for a few minutes and try to go again the engine will stall when i put it in gear (forward or reverse). the engine will start back up fine but when you put it into gear it'll stall. the even weirder part is that after this happens, you can wait again and it'll stop doing it. i have no clue what that is so if any, can someone help me out here??? thank god its the end of the summer:facepalm:

Have someone else shift while you look at the shift interrupt switch. It sounds like it is engaging when it is not supposed to. Sign of a bad or mis-adjusted lower shift cable.

Melt? No. Corrosion and gunk making it stiff? Absolutely. It can also wear a groove inside the sheath and stretch. Those are the typical reasons a cable fails. There is no sense in trying to save it or clean it if it proves bad. Simply replace it with the Quicksilver brand. (I've used the aftermarket ones and have been disappointed with the quality).

Yes - naughty cable! ;) But the only way to be sure is to watch and see if the switch is activated when shifting. The you can check the adjustment.... But yes, I believe you need to change your cable.
