Hello,

Those of you experienced boaters... I need advice. I am looking at purchasing a 1991 Bayliner Capri with a 90hp Force Motor and a 1994 Escort Trailer. Everything is great looking... the boat runs great... (had it out on the lake) and the owner is willing to allow me to take it to a marina to have it checked before purchasing... he is willing to sell it for $2600.

Does the price seem fair?

Thanks!

Don't do it. Force is not good. Bayliner is one of the lower quality of boats as well.

Fair price but I personally wouldn't purchase a boat with a Force. They are no longer made nor fully supported with parts and some mechanics won't work on them because of that.

I have the exact boat. Sounds like a pretty stand up guy to let you do all that, probably not trying to hide anything. I would be a little concerned about the Force engine, but the boat is a great boat, sound, solid, and rides very nice.
Have the mechanic go through it(hopefully the boat is $2600, and not the price for the mechanic to see it), and if it checks out, it doesn't sound like a bad price.
I think it was '89 or '90 that bayliner changed the construction of their hulls, and dramatically improved them.

The boat i like, the motor im not so sure about. but if it runs good, checks out, and you like it, go for it. Dont worry about the "bayliner is cheap crap" people on here, you will get those, but i would put my 91 Capri up against anybody else's 91 bowrider.

I owned a 19FT Bayliner Capri with a Force 125hp....I never had any problems with the motor.....just the transom started to get weak....So I would just check everything out twice.

Dont worry about the "bayliner is cheap crap" people on here?

A used Mercedes is more expensive than a used Geo Metro.

A used Grady White is more expensive than a used Bayliner.

Why do you think that's the case?

Cause bayliner used child labor and can afford to sell em cheap:D

$2,600 in my area woud get ya a much better package. Our area is overflowing with bayliners, most of em' behind houses rotting cuz nobody can hardly give them away, let alone fool someone into paying 2600 for one...

Believe me I know..... I barely got $1900 out of mine, and it had new stringers, new floor, new transom, new carpet, full custom new interior, and a rebuilt 125hp Force. here are a few pics I of her when I was done.

Location would help a great deal. Prices vary tons by that factor.

I paid not quite 1000.00 more then your looking at for my boat. Its beyond mint I would say, and its very very well cared for. Just an idea to keep your eyes peeled and not jump on the first one, I shopped for well over a month before I found 'the right' one...

Bayliner's are mass produced, therefore they can be built for less.

Ohh, and id take a Geo Metro over an overpriced, overcomplicated, incredibly hard to work on and expensive to maintain Benz.

Compare bayliner's production numbers to other manufacturers. they build more. Dont bash them because you had a terrible boat. If they are so terrible, why do they sell so many, and why are there so many older ones around? Seriously, the 91' Capri i have looks way better, and is in much better shape than the other 91' model boats at the marina its dry stored at. Its all about how it was cared for.

And yes, I would take a Metro over a Benz. Never been impressed by a mercedes in my entire life, and ive drove them, have family members who have them. I'll stick with Acura, Lexus, or Caddy.

I have looked at several... and in this area EVERYTHING is junk... I haven't had any luck... or I have missed some possible opportunities by a day... even 15 min for one.

OK, that one is sweet. I also saw one at the ramp that was nearly new and I liked it a lot. Different strokes.

(1st) I never said they don't make a lot of em.

(2nd) by all means quote me where I bashed them, and mine was not terrible once I was done restoring it. I only spoke for my area having them overflowing and rotting in backyards, BECAUSE ITS TRUE!!!!!

(3rd) Why were so many Escorts sold, and why are there so many older ones around?........ because there is a market for it. If bayliner's are what someone can afford...... that is usually what they buy.

(4th) I find it hilarious that just because it was not a Geo to Lexus analogy, you failed to understand the meaning

I simply believe it is not wise to buy a low end "PACKAGE", when for the same money you can get something that is not obsolete, and has a better track record.
