There doesn't seem to be the large # of Hurricane owners on this forum.... but for those of us who are here, post some pics of your Hurricane with its details.

I'll start

Great looking boats everyone.... Love seeing all the different layouts/models/years of Hurricanes (I have 2 friends that own one, and a 3rd looking for one)

Keep the pics coming... I know there are more Hurricane owners on this forum.

How do you like the Yamaha F150TXR????? Enough power, or do you wish you had the 200 HP like NelsonQ?

Just another piece of info..... 150HP was my target engine and I think is plenty for the boat. I decided on 175HP as an insurance measure with no weight difference. Long story short, there was a mixup/problem with my motor, and I got the 200HP upgrade at no cost :D:D (Great dealer by the way and I covered it in my review of my boat)

The 150 is a nice engine, but I do wish for more power occasionally with my 2100. I wanted the F200, but we got such a good deal on the F150 plus the extended warranty, and the dealer threw in some extras that I just couldn't pass it up. Top speed is around 40 mph so far with a full load (gas and water tank full, tube, stuff, plus 2 adults and 2 kids). Hole shot is good, but I haven't tried pulling a skier yet, but I have pulled a 2 person tube with 2 teens with no problem at all. I only have 17 hours on the engine so far, so its just getting broken in. Once I get it fully broken in, I may consider a prop change, since so far I'm only getting to about 4800 rpm at WOT.

Ernest, consider a 4 blade prop. I have a 5 blade SS prop on mine.... If I hit it hard with 3 people in the boat and two people in the tubes, I can literally pull the tubes from under them there is that much greater hole shot and greater 'traction' in the turns.

Check with your dealer if they have a try before you buy prop option and give a 4 blade a consideration. It'll drop you 1-2MPHs at WOT for the same pitch but at 4800 RPMs at WOT you'll most likely change the pitch. What are you running now for a prop (pitch, SS or aluminum) and what is the WOT range on the F150?

Hey Nelson,

Thanks for the prop info. I'm just starting to do some research into a different prop. Right now I'm running a Yamaha SS 3-blade prop, but I don't know the pitch/diameter. I'll check the next time I take it out (probably next weekend). WOT optimally would be close to 5800-6000 RPMs on the 150. I've been told that this engine will pick up 200-400 RPMs as it breaks in, but I still seem to be running on the low side and that is what got me thinking about a different prop. Do you have a specific brand, material, number of blade recommendation? Thanks for the help!

Re: Show us pics of your Hurricane

Currently my F150TXR has Yamaha the Reliance stainless 14.25 x 17"P 3 blade, and I'm getting about 5600-5800 RPM @ WOT depending on my load. According to shop and owners manual, between 5800-6000 is peak on the F150's power band range. I've not heard about gaining RPM that much upon new engine break-in? But then again, there's ten billion things I know nothing about. If you want more speed try a 19" P 3 blade. You should be turning ~ 55-5600 and still be in the power band WOT range of @ 5000-6000 RPM.... My 19" P 3 blade got me 45.9 mph @ 5500 RPM, but I lost some hole-shot. I would gander a 4 or 5 blade would be killer hole-shot but even with correct pitch I'd guess ~ 35-38 MPH would be tops... See we F150 folk do need the damn F200TXR's! :D BTW, I installed digital Command Link tach from Yamaha ( cool stuff google it! ) and my analog tach was off ~ 600 RPM!!!!! crazy! All in all the F150 is a great engine, but the F200 would be a tad more fun, maybe even crazy fun.... Lucky NelsonQ!!!!!!

BWT: the 4800 RPM you talked about, sounds like your running a 21" or 23" P prop. Or maybe your analog tach is off like mine was.

Iboats has the 4 blade Solas SS props...(cheaper aluminum Amita for $106.99) Heard lots of guys here on the forum talking about them.

The 4 or 5 blade will give you amazing hole shot and good grip in the turns compared to the equivalent 3 blade. I got on plane with 6 adults in the boat in under 2 seconds (note: 200HP on a 18" 10" long boat which helps but still unusually quick)

I've had no problem with the aluminum but prefer the SS.

The key here though is the 4 blades drop RPMs of 50-100RPM from it's 3 blade equivalent so you'd need to factor that in. I'd guess somewhere in the 17-19 pitch is around the right range (but knowing your current WOT RPMs and prop setup is key to knowing)

cuda's right and making sure your tach is correct. You want to be close to the top end of the range but not out by 600. I have the SmartMonitor so it's similar to the Command Link Tach with a few other gadgets/sensors built in. But good to have an accurate readout direct from the engine.

WOW! Lots of good info. I would not be surprised at all if my analog tach was off 500+. Was anyone else not real impressed with the gauges that came on the boat? How hard was it to install the Command Link? Once you install the Command Link, do the other gauges become inoperative? Did you leave the other gauges in place? I'm very interested in putting one in..........will probably be my next purchase.

My boat is stored at a Marina, and it will probably be next weekend when I can check out the prop. Once I do, I'll throw some numbers back here and let you guys give me some suggestions. I really appreciate the info. so far!

I'm with you on the envy factor for the F200.........can you ever have too much horse power? :D Unfortunately, my pocketbook couldn't handle it right now, and I don't have NelsonQ's luck for finding a sweet deal.

Re: Show us pics of your Hurricane

I found my tach appears to be somewhat accurate...but the speedo once above 40 dances a fair bit....

The digital tach is a better, more accurate.
