I've been trying to achieve a goal of bottom painting the boat.

Friend #1 "What the hell dude, you're just going to mess it up, you've got 500 bucks, just pay someone to do it!"

Friend #2 "Well my other friend will do it, but you gotta make it worth it for him, maybe 300 bucks"

Friend #3 "I know someone who will do it for 400"


Wtf. All of these friends have known me for years.

I can successfully:

*build servers and computers from just parts
*replace all brakes on all of the cars I've owned
*swap starters, water pumps, power steering pumps, alternators on them too.
*replace my homes water heater, pipes included
*fully wire a home theater system putting all the wires in the walls/ceilings, etc.
*run a summer camp for 3 years for 100's of campers

So Why the heck do they think I can't simply paint a bottom of a boat? I don't get it.

Ok, it's hard work, sanding, barrier coat, paint coat....I get it...

I just don't get why my life long friends are so negative all the time.

It's a 19 foot bayliner.

It's not your friends.....It's the BAYLINER. <kidding>

Seriously, I hated painting bottoms, especially on trailer boats.
Just too much jockeying around the bunks and/or rollers and the trailer frame.

I understand that it's a multi day adventure. And a pain, but for them to just dismiss my ability right off the bat is annoying.

Dunno.......maybe there just a bunch of b*llbusters like me!!LOL....my friends and I get more enjoyment out of torrmenting each other then anything else....when were working on our cars,boat,motorcycles...ect...ect...ect...it usually turns into a major nutbusting sesion.

Could it be that they don't want you to try it because they think you're going to ask them for help? I wouldn't worry about what they think- Just do it!
Yeah it's a tough job, but definitely do-able all by yourself. I oughta know- I stripped, barrier-coated and painted my 34 footer last spring, all solo. My back STILL hurts...

Yep..I get it too. All they are really saying is that they don't think they can do it. And they assume since they can't then you can't.

Well I have very good friends of 30+ years and they know not to tell me I can't do something, friend 1 is in Miami he is like an Eore (Winnie the pooh)but he is like a brother to me, and friend 2(brothers from another Mother) is here in Atlanta and he is more of a doer and we can do anything once we figure it out sometimes it takes a little time.It is funny that both my friends have the same type of personally and that sort of balances me out

Then do it yourself, be successful and show them the result.
I get a lot of new "friends" when their outboard stops working. Had one early this afternoon that lives up the road from me. Fixed his 115 Johnson last spring for free on condition that he brought it to me for winterizing. He did not and got the marina to do it for him. He got his winter cover off yesterday and once again it won't start. Came to me for help because we are "friends"
Going to inflate his bill by the price of the winterizing this time.

I have acquaintances like that, but my FRIENDS show up (with a cooler!) everytime I need a hand. They know reciprocation is a phone call away.

if you can get 4 friends together ,tell them if theyre really your bros, to help you knock it out in a coupla weekends.if none of them want to help you,yeah,get some more friends,,good luck on the repaint,and friends too

Actually, I have friends that would help me with this task if I asked. That's because I wouldn't ask unless I was dealing with disability, and also because I would help them if they needed it. That's just the way friends work.

Do the job yourself, and if it comes out to your approval then your ok.

If it turns out horrible then get the guy for $300.00 or $400.00 to do the job.

Try your work first ... you may be surprised.

Don't give up before you start,
and make sure you get the right kind of paint before you start.

My wife has tons of friends. There always seems to be drama. I have no friends. No drama. Although it's gonna suck when it comes time to flip my boat over.
