Sound Dampening

Wondering if anyone was any tips to sound damper my Dog house on my I/O. Currently its 1/2 plywood with foam egg shell dampering for my dog house. Does any one have any tricks to help quite engine noise with out adding weight or spend $$$$$$$.

I asked about that not too long ago. One suggestion was using car audio sound deadening material (foil faced with like a tar backing) cuz I already have a roll. Another idea I liked was using house sheet insulation like from Lowes. It's pretty cheap and I'm pretty sure you can get it in 1'', at least 3/4''

The stuff F14 mentions works well. I'm also familiar with a marine grade stuff that has a couple different density layers such as what is show in this link.

Ayuh,... I get mine by Dumpster Divin'....
There's that closed cell rubbery type of Packing Foam used to protect appliances,+ whatnots...
I've found it in 1/8", 1/4",+ 1/2" thicknesses...
I layered the inside of the doghouse with it, then interlined the curtains I made for beside the doghouse...

It cut the Noise by Alot...

Thanks for all the reponses. I think that the foam's going to do the trick. I already have some stereo Dynamat around a couple of speakers. Stuff's just too expensive.

Regarding the foam, did you guys do anything about fire/oil protection? Also I have nothing behind my jump seats in the back. I was think that automotive hood pads would work. So i can drape it down but still gain acess to my batteries and storage. I imagine most of my sound issues is due to this.

Any better Ideas.

Home depot and lowes sells a thick rubber roofing material VERY VERY similar to dynomat

Seal N Peal, I read about that on some car audio sites. Heard good and bad, people saying the stuff smells and will ooze if it gets hot, some saying it works great.

Going to try it on a couple of sub boxes.

Might have to use the seal N peal, then cover it with foam for some heat protection.

A can of rubberized undercoating works well as a top layer of foam. Consider it the spray-on bedliner of dynomat. Undisputed low-budget champion of soundproofing in my book.

Has anyone ever used MDF to make a Doghouse? I would like to have is 1/4" mdf with 1/2 rigid foam then another layer of 1/4" mdf. Figured this would provide the best sound supression versus weight. I would love to use 1/2 mdf but it would be just to heavy. Any one have any thoughts? I figured I could wrap this in fiberglass if it seemed to flimsy after i built it.

MDF should not be used on a boat. It is a sponge, and is heaver and not as strong as plywood. You would be better off with 1/4" plywood.

Agree'd. MDF is great for mold making.

Yea I figured, wondered if any one did mdf and was able to seal it well enough. MDF is desner then plywood, thus why they use it in speaker box's to help with sound. Anyone have any pictures of their doghouses?
