Any chance that thing was made in Australia? The number on the disc is the serial number, but the "A" probably means Australia. USA Serial numbers ran much higher.

At any rate, the 33 was made from 1965 through 1971. There isn't much difference over the years, but there are SOME differences. Depends on what you need to order.

Post a few pics of it - we might be able to at least make a guess on the year based on paint color, hood decals, etc. Also, if all you need is an impeller and a drive shaft o-ring, I don't think its going to make much difference what year it is. That, of course, assumes that it really is a 33hp model.

yep, that lower unit was a long time in the making. 1955 up into the 70's, 25, 28, 30, 33, 35 and 40hp motors, so getting parts should be simple.

Re: johson super seahorse 33 model

While it appears that your motor has been painted one or more times, the hood appears to be off of a 1967 Johnson 33hp - maybe a 1968. I can't remember exactly which year had the silver "seahorse section" on the side decal, but the 69s had gold in this area.

I'm thinking '67 or '68, bcause of the Forest Green paint below the trim piece. This went with the green color of the rest of the motors, for those model years. Once again, I'm dealing from memory, but I think the '65 and '66 33hp motors were all white.

Tell them to take a flyin' leap. You can get your impeller and your 0-ring here at iBoats.

If iBoats doesn't have what you're looking for then go to vintageoutboard.com

sounds like jay_merrill has it nailed down for ya though.;)

Re: johson super seahorse 33 model

For what you need, I really think you would be OK with parts from any of the 33hp model years.

As F_R correctly pointed out to me not long ago, there are some parts differences between the 28hp motors and the 33hp motors (they are essentially the same motor and share many parts), but when it comes to stuff like impellers and drive shaft o-rings, my bet is that there aren't any substantial differences. Since I have been wrong before, however, just verify this from whatever parts source you go to - they should be able to tell you quite easily.

One thing you might pay attention to, though, is difference in complete water pump kits. For example, the OMC 6hp motors can have "small" impellers or "large" ones - it just depends on which kit your get. The difference is in the size of the cup in the pump cap. The last time I ordered an impeller for one, I forgot about this and ended up with the wrong size for the pump cap/cup that I had. No big deal, because I just decided to bring the impeller back as an individual item and buy a whole kit, which is what I probably should have done in the first place.

I'm not sure that this is an issue with the 33hp motor, but its a good thing to keep in mind.

yep, that was the option I had with my 6hp too. I could have bought the original style impeller, but I opted for the newr style kit all together.

Yep, you have a 33hp, year uncertain. BUT, the water pumps are all alike on all the 33hps. Go to http://shop.evinrude.com/, navigate to the 1968 33hp, pick out the parts you want and order them there. Or, you can get them here at iboats also.
