Sorry for the setbacks brutha! And that you have a darn col!

I wish I had the answer, but I can bet it will be resolved ASAP with the help of iboats folks... Always some issues with a resto, especially a re-power!

Also hope you feel better!

The boat is incredible! You're gonna trip with the 5.7!

If your nut is on the outside you are good for the new cable. I had to retap mine, but it turns out it was already tapped all the way through.

Re: 81 Glastron SX-190 Transom and Engine- PICS Galore Update 11-8

Well I just got back from the after the first sea trials... and WOW!!!!!!! This boat scared me!!!!!!! It literally jumps out of the hole when you punch it and just hauls tail. We hit 53 GPS before I backed out due to my fear, and being a new engine. There is more there, but that is not what I was after, it was the low end torque. Boy did I get it.

Today was not the perfect day for a first launch. It was windy and overcast, but I needed to get this over with. we spent about 30 minutes on the lake going through different tests. From stopping to full throttle, and just cruising. Everything was perfect. One thing I never checked was the timing. I never heard and pinging (listen to the video and you guys can tell me) and it was plenty fast, so I just never messed with it.

I am very pleased with the outcome and I want to thank everyone here for the encouragement and advise.

Video will me up when I get it uploaded.

AMAZING and awesome. I hope mine goes that well, but considering that I will have all new wires except the engine harness I am bound to get something wrong.

Once I get to wiring, it will be happy days. I love wiring DC stuff.

Very nice job Frisco. It sure doesnt look like a 29 year old boat. I should be ready for water tomorrow but will have to see when I get a decent day to try it.

Wow! It jumps out of the hole like a tow boat! Good choice on the motor. You should be able to pull up all the kids in the neighborhood, all at once. Fantastic. I'm going to watch the video again...

I saw your temp gage pointing far left. That will be a blessing come mid-August.

Two questions Jay: Did you have any oil leaks? If not, what did you use to seal the gaskets?

That motor sounds awesome and man does that thing jump out of the water! Almost makes me rethink my undying hatred for I/O's :p

Clockwatcher,

No I did not have any oil leaks yet. I have the engine built as a crate per my specifications, and the guaranteed it not to leak. Now for the intake I used Pemetex Ultra black gasket maker.

After listening to some old clips of the boat and now this one, I seem to be getting alot of prop slip (or at least I think I am). My boat had a whale tail on it before and after reading here that it was garbage I did not reinstall it. There are four holes on the anti cav plate and I wonder if that is letting air in and causing some prop slip. I noticed it more in the corners.

Wow. Class A job. What a power house. I got a thrill just watching the video, I could not imagine being in that. Too bad for the wind though. Thanks for sharing, truly a beautiful boat.

Nice to see her back on the water Jay, you have done a wonderful job! She sure does pop out of the hole! And nothing sounds like a V8!

I hit 53 GPS before I let up. There was more to go on the throttle, but I was getting scared. It was very choppy yesterday.

Hey Frisco,

Just wanted to say congrats on the successful shakedown. I've followed your thread all winter and enjoyed the build.

Out of curiosity, have you run a Prop calc on your latest performance?

I have the same setup in my boat, 350 W/qjet. Can you confirm some numbers.

Gear ratio: 1.5
RPM : 4200??
speed: 53 GPS
Prop Pitch: ???

Thanks, great job!

I am not sure of the pitch. It looks like a custom prop and has had some work done to it. I was hitting around 4000 rpm before I let off. The chop was really working against me.
