Hey Mick,
Not today, I was working hard cleaning my workshop in the basement.
It was cold, Windy raining, and mixed with snow. :(
Did I ever mention how much I hate winter?

Re: Timid but determined Glasstream restoration

I am finding that as I get older I am becoming more tolerant to the cold. (southern boy, 40 deg is cold) But even though I have this blessing of my age I still hate winter as much as ever. Anxiously awaiting spring is my hobby during the colder months.
I have tried to talk my wife in to relocating to the coast. Unfortunately she wont budge. Stupid standard of living!
I could sleep in a tent on the beach but I have to stay in a really nice lodge if I am going where there is snow. get it?

Re: Timid but determined Glasstream restoration

Hello everyone,
Glad to see everyone survived the holidays, at least round one. :D
Drewpster, I know exactly what you mean. :)
I'm guessing by Tenn River you are in TN. Even through that river covers a couple states. I live in KY but work in western TN.
Well, Not a lot to report today but did get the fillets made around the entire transom and the side panels.
I'm ready to pull the clamps off the transom and start glassing it in but tomorrow, I have to fly to Mexico for work.
At least I'll only be gone 3 days this week and then back to Mexico the following Sunday for another week.
We'll just have to see how much I can get done when I get back home.
I have the rest of my family coming over New Years. :)
I'll do my best to stay up with all of your projects.

Re: Timid but determined Glasstream restoration

Hello everyone,
I just thought I would let you know that I made it home from Mexico.
I hadn't had any time on the boat so wife went to bed shortly after midnight and I went to the boat. I got the transom completely glassed in and tomorrow I will measure it to determine if I am actually done with the main transom.
I put 3 layers of 18oz roving woven and 1 layer of 1.5 oz of CSM.
What do you all think? Shouldn't that be enough?
Well I'm tired and it almost 4 AM, I think I'm going to bed.
Nite, Nite all.

Bob, maybe you should considder a portable garage so your not a dependant on the weather. They are about $200. But I understand how a boat can take all your spare money too.

I have thought about it but I haven't taken the time yet. I have the tarp set up like a tent over it but heating it is a bear. Last night it was only 26 outside, I got it up to the 50's.
Tonight after the BH let me alone. I went out and it was only in the teens. I turned on the lights and heater on, an hour later it was only 32. I went back into the house. :(
I need to do something. Just not sure what it is yet.
Have a good night all.

Something to do... throw up some temporary walls out there! Get some 1x3's, space them every two feet, and some ply off of craigslsit and it'll be 50 in there no problem with a heat source! Your wife would love that! You'd be able to work on the boat though! Gdnt Bob

hey Mick,
Thanks for the ideas. Not sure what I can get done tomorrow and Sunday I have to head out again but I will be looking at it pretty hard.
One good thing about spending time with the wife today, we went to the movies and I got to see the new movie Avatar and really liked it. :D
Not all bad.
Thanks

Re: Timid but determined Glasstream restoration

Someday I want to find an Army GP Medium Tent at an army surplus. The things are about 30 by 40 feet and about 12 feet tall in the center. you can also run 2 stoves in them. The things are nice and warm in the winter and in the summer you can roll the sides up. It just takes the whole bed of a truck to move one.

Re: Timid but determined Glasstream restoration

SKIBUM1M,
That would be a great tent to have. I remember them too. Right now I would freeze just trying to put it up.
Today, I decided to stay inside and not be out any more then required.
The last time I checked the temp it was 14 and dropping.
I hope this weather breaks soon.
I just decided to pack for tomorrows trip back to Mexico.
I'll be gone until next Friday.
Good luck on all the projects.

Bob,
Have a good trip. Maybe by the time you get back the weather will be more suited to boat restoration!
Happy Travels
