I have a 89 model Johnson 50HP 2 cyl. That want open all the way up. I cleaned carbs and installed new kits. All went really well. Starts and runs but wont open up to high speed. I think something is wrong with the primer and chock solenoid system??? When you press the primer bulb it dosent want to prime up like it should. I need help on what to do next. There are no boat techs within 50 miles of me and Ime machanically talented my self.

If it starts and runs both the primer and choke are doing there job, after start up you are done with both of them as the fuel pump takes over pumping fuel and when the engineis hot it won't run with the choke in.

Does sound like you missed the high speed jets in the bottom of the float bowl to me, they pick up stuff really easy.

You have 3 sets of jets, idle, mid and high speed, if even one of the highs is clogged the engine won't run over 1500-2000 rpm and you shouldn't run the engine till you get this worked out, no gas no oil so you are hurting the engine.

On an '89 you should change the gas line from the tank to the carbs, all of it and get at least a Napa fuel filter on it, that gas line is pretty old and not alcohol resistant, little peices will flake off and plug the jets right away.
