Re: need help with my boats

Your prop size is relegated to the max RPM's that your motor was designed to produce. Let's say for instance you have a 100 hp motor that has a 14 X 19 prop on it. The motor from the factory is rated at 5,000 rpm @ WOT. Changing the pitch ( the second number ) either up or down by one degree will hypothetically change your RPM's by 200. So, if you lower the pitch then the chances of the engine over-reving are increased. Adding to it will make it lug. The optimum balance is within those two figures.
Either way you go with it you're either gonna' burn it up or see parts flying off of it.
Check and see what your max RPM's are for that motor and judge it from there. :D

Then tell us what your WOT rating is and what RPM you are at now. We may be able to help.

Chris,
Look in your local yellow pages for a "Propeller Shop" best bet is allow the guys there to determine what you have now..and what will help you gain more speed..Be warned, there's a trade-off...higher top end speed results in longer time to plane out, slower starts. Faster starts..jackrabbit take offs...result in lower top end speed....Its all in the pitch/diameter of the prop. And good stainless steel props aint cheap.

The issue is that you have not provided enough information for anyone to be able to give you specific advice.

Read this post from the prop forum http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=287818

Without wide open throttle (WOT) rpms, and speed info, it is not possible to provide any help other than generic information.

Most here are willing to help if we have the info.
