I have my new floor in and glued and screwed down. I have all my peices of 1708 cut and layed out to start my sides. I am going up 6" on the sides and
6" accross the floor. I am using poly resin do I go all the way around with one layer let it dry then in a day or two sand it lightly and then do a second layer or do I do one then go back and do another right away before it dries and keep moving like that. I want to do it tonight. Thanks In advance.

Re: ready to fiberglass my sides have quick question

You have a couple of options.

A glass shop would do both layers at one time, which means only one time around.

You can do one layer at a time and go around twice if you want, but there's no real need to.

The one thing we don't know is the about the resin you have. Some resins like the Bondo products have a very short gel time, this can create problems for someone with little experience. Other brands have longer gel times and it may be no problem at all.

Test the first batch, use 1% catalyst and see if you have enough time to do both layers.

If you are using unwaxed resin there is no need to sand, the resin will dry tacky so you can apply another layer, no need to wait a day. However if you are using waxed resin indeed you will need to sand the wax off, resin containing wax is used for the final layer. Do you know what type your using?

Hello Badbowtie..

Do it all at one time.. section by section 2 layers per..( not 1 layer all around..2 layers 1708/section at a time ) work your way around.

Start off with a quart kicked 10cc mekp. If it gels to quick..mix less. ( brushing the backside of matted 1708 will make things go Real quick ).
