Let me just say "Thank You" for not only doing a GREAT job, but doing it Right as well. SO many people want to rush stuff like this and the end results are less than acceptable. BTW, while you and your dad were discussing the carbs and looking at each other, who was watching where you were going??

Thanks. I took a few shortcuts, it's not perfect. I learned a lot along the way, and there are a few things I would've done differently, in hindsight. It turned out pretty good though. We'll take it out again this weekend (still 89? down here in ATL).

With just 1 carb running, we had plenty of time to maneuver around anything in our way.

I think the mods want a new thread, with all but the relevant posts removed, which just gets moved to the "completed projects" forum. I'll work on that this weekend.

Joey,

I've posted before and want to say again - great job! Your project thread is definitely addictive. Thanks for being so detailed and complete on your responses. You have inspired me and my husband to tackle a few of our restoration projects -- in stages of course! We have a 20' Sportcraft Bowrider - just like yours in brown/tan. I will be sending a shout-out once we get into the thick of things this winter.

I was wondering if you could post a list of the things you would do differently now that your project is finished - you mentioned that there were a few things in your last post. I was curious what they would be and if you could condense that list for us.

Again - kudos on your success!!!

Joey, you did a great job on the Starcraft. How is the paint on the hull holding up? I have a old Alumacraft that I may try to paint. Your project has inspired me.
Thanks.

Paint is holding up fine. Of course, it's only been launched a few times due to my junk engine. I would say, based on my experience with Rustoleum, that the paint I used is very similar to it. I wouldn't hesitate to use Rustoleum in the future instead of the high(er) dollar stuff I bought.

Hmmm... I'm trying to think of some things. I think I posted some thoughts earlier in the thread, but these are just off the top of my head. If I had another project boat, I would:

Probably use Rustoleum instead of the Benjamin Moore. Probably similar performance from each.

Spray the paint instead of roll/tip. A lot of people like roll/tip, just took way too long in my opinion. Spraying took an hour a day over 2 days. I roll/tipped the first coat, and sprayed the rest on this boat.

And finally, make sure the engine runs!

Thanks for the reply Joey -- paint is our nest year project.

Sorry to hear about your bum motor - I know how you feel. All the work and no power. uggh. . Ours has been in sick bay for three weeks now - I'll never hire a part-time mechanic again.

Hope you get out on the water soon. thanks for the inspiration - I think you are a superstar here!

Re: 1979 18? Starcraft Supersport Resurrection (warning ? lots of pics)

How well is the Benjamin Moore M22 product holding up? I am looking for options to paint my boat. Also you mentioned using rustoleum next time - is there a rustoleum made for marine use? I see the benjamin moore m22 says it can hold up to marine use.

Thanks

Re: 1979 18? Starcraft Supersport Resurrection (warning ? lots of pics)

The paint's holding up just fine. It doesn't have a mildewcide in it, as some other paints do, so we had a bunch of scrubbing to do this spring when we brought it out of storage. It's warm and wet down here in the south.

Rustoleum does have a marine line - HD or Ace could probably special order it for you. As stated earlier, I wouldn't hesitate to use Rustoleum's "Stops Rust" or "Professional" brands on a boat.

Of course, this applies to trailered boats. Moored boats have special needs, and these paints will fail if submerged for more than a few days at a time.

I noticed yesterday for the first time that our local Lowe's has Rustoleum Marine paint prominently displayed on a separate rack in the paint department.

Thanks! Prolly won't see you on Allatoona if you're in Winder. At least Lanier's not a mud pit anymore......
