Transam question

I was looking in the engine compartment last night and was looking at the back corner of the boat at the transom. I was pushing with my hand to make sure it was solid. the back of my boat has a wierd shape to it. the almost the entire area on the transom is glassed on the inside except for a small area on the back. (marked with the red box in pic) I found a small spot in the plywood back there that is cracking when I push on it, not bad and its not wet but it gives a little.(yellow box) if I go the the outside and push in that area it is solid. my question, is there a temporay fix I can do just to get me through next season as I do not have anywhere to take the boat appart and fix it right. I am planning on replacing everything, stringers transom deck all of it next winter when I will have a place to do it. could I add a couple of layers of glass to get me through, and is that anything structual there. I only have two stringers that run the length of the boat at the width of the engine

Re: Transom question

If your transom glass is as thick as my Glastron in that area (? inch) there's no way a bit of water pressure will have any effect. I think you'll be fine for the time being.

Re: Transam question

You can try using products such as Git Rot or a penetrating epoxy on the area. Just drill a series of holes and inject the epoxy into the holes. It apparently works, have never tried it though. Should buy you a little time. I did my repair the hard way.

Have a great day,

Rob.

Ayuh,........

I only see 1 picture with No red or yellow boxes......
But,.....
On the Up side,......
Berkley Jets don't use the Transom for anything but holding the water Out......
All of the Thrust is into the Bottom of the boat, where the suction piece is glassed into the hull......

I'd just let it go til next year when you do the Major Refit.........
