Hello All,

I burned a piston on my 300 Johnson; while I was waiting on a good deal to appear on a replacement, I decided to rebuild my 87 25? Hydra Sport WA. It?s in fairly good shape but the abuse it received over the years need attention. The superstructure was painted previously and was in sad shape. It now looks much better after a fresh coat of Interlux Off White Brightsides.

I have all the hardware removed as well as the cabin bulkhead. There were 2- 3/8 SS bolts going through the deck on the raised walk around section. These bolts attached to the bulkhead within the cabin. All 4, (2 on each side,) had been broken for a long time. I was wondering if any one had replace this type of fastening system with something that would provide better support without breaking.

Thanks.

Pictures would work wonders mark. A little hard to visualize exactly what you are dealing with.

I was thinkin some 5200 along with new SS bolt and nylon backed nuts would be a little better. All 4 of the SS bolts were broken off.

Re: Deck support

I would question what kind of movement caused the SS bolts to break???

How is that bulkhead attached to the inside of the hull and the floor below? Is that like an inner hull liner?...and I assume that white stuff above and the dark stuff adjacent to is carpet?

Re: Deck support

Yes that's carpet just above the pillar. The pillar is attached to mucho support below and is also the beginning of the tube that transports all the controls and remote cables.

The hull and topside are a three piece deal. The cabin and gunwales come out and then the rear floor section comes out.

I am replacing the cabin bulkhead that is attached to the pillar and the overhead of the cabin. It was rotten at the base on both sides which probably contributed to the movement and the breaking of the bolts. Water was able to get between the lower fiberglass wall and the bulkhead. (Old sealant.)

The opposite side was also broken but the aluminum plate that was missing probably attached directly to the bulkhead. The bulkhead was also tabbed with fiberglass to the hull liner on both sides. This I will rework also.
