Excellent, and thank you! I will take to today to get everything prepared and then get at the painting first thing tomorrow morning. It is supposed to rain tomorrow and Sun, but the temperature range looks good.

Lol, you guys are hilarious!

Well wait no longer (you big bear), I finally have some paint shots!

All taped off, cleaned and ready to go!

SE Primer coat went on with out any issue, except that it stinks to high heaven. As it turns out, I was using the wrong filters on my mask. Didn't figure that out until I had done the first top coat layer. :der:

So I bought both a LVLP sprayer and a HVLP sprayer. The LVLP was leaking paint from the needle. I spent two hours trying to trouble shoot the issue with no joy. So I pulled out the HVLP sprayer, and it worked like a charm, but I had to sand down the spatters and runs first. Very annoying.

Under coat with the HVLP sprayer, the thing worked like a dream. No issues with my compressor.

First coat of the top coat that I did yesterday. Very happy with the results. I was not able to spray today as it was cool with high humidity. I will do a second coat tomorrow, and and final third coat on Sat.

Overall, very happy with the results so far. I am really liking the sapphire blue. Sadly I have to wait at least 16 hours between coats due to the low temperature, 10 to 15 degree C (that is also the recommendation from the paint manufacturer). Plus I have to do a quick sanding between coats in order to get a mechanical bond between coats. Oh well, still happy with the finish. Fingers crossed for the last two coats on the hull.

Next will be to wait three days, and then buff the hull with aluminum polish. I will then flip the boat and paint the interior and gunnels. The temperature forecast for the next 14 days is within the requirements for the paint application, so I just might get all the painting done before it gets too cold.

Hey Gents,

Okay so final coat on the hull is done. I am quite happy with the finish, its really smooth. I do not think that I will be able to spray the gunnels and inside of the boat this year as it is already too cold for the paint. The paint requires a minimum temperature of 10 degrees C (that would be surface temp). As a result, I will have to wait until next spring to do the rest of the painting.

The plan now is to let it sit for a few more days and then flip it upright. I will start measuring the cast deck and building the aluminum frame work.

Paint looks great! Don't you hate how fast our weather turns here, it's snowing again in Calgary today ugh. It cracks me up to see the southerners unhappy with their 100 degree Temps this time of year. I'll take that any day over this crap. IMG_20181008_113252.jpg

Hey Guys!

Sorry I missed a couple of posts here, I have been somewhat disengaged since winter has set in here in Manitoba. I always appreciate the feedback on the boat, and I hope everyone here has been doing well over the last five months (FIVE MONTHS!!!!). The itch to get back to the boat is so bad, I am having problems focusing on other projects. My mind keeps wandering back to the boat and what I want to do next.

It has been miserably cold here as I am sure Budski can attest to. However, we are now into the month of March, and I need to start getting some things in order so that I am ready to get back to the build once the weather warms up, which I hope will be in the next three to four weeks.

Bud's son, John, is building a custom aluminum livewell for me, and it should be ready for pick very shortly (lots of pictures when I get it, I promise!). I had a look at his progress last weekend, and it is looking very good. I am really excited to pick it up when it is done so I can start planning the supporting structure and insulation for the livewell. I have been pricing out some equipment for the livewell such as aerator pumps and plumbing. One of the hiccups I have encountered is getting my hands on a Flow-Rite - Pump Out/Aerator Combo Kit. They offer the valve on IBoats, but for some reason, as a resident of Canada, I cannot order the valve from IBoats (?).

Anyone else in Canada experiencing that issue?

I attached an image of the valve I want for the livewell.

If anyone can help me figure out the ordering issue, I would be very grateful. Maybe someone knows a supplier in Canada. I have been searching and I have not been able to locate this beast. Kind of have my heart set on it after seeing a review on YouTube. Here is the link to video:

Okay guys, hopefully more posts soon.

PS - Has anyone else notice that the IBoats site is a little messed up?

Yeah they have a banner about the website issues going on this week.

On the valve I would send iboats a message about it and fins out for sure what's going on.

Hey WM,

I saw that banner after posting, but it wasn't easy to find. The site does appear to be functioning normally now.

Good idea, I will fire them a message.

Hello again!

I picked up my aluminum livewell from John Jr. the other day (thx John). Looks quite nice, I am very happy with it.

I did a dry fit in the boat, once I add the insulation and framing it will fit perfectly. I already ordered some of the plumbing parts for it. In another two weeks, I suspect that I will be back at the boat.

Pics as follows:

20190310_205452.jpg The overall size of the tank is 36(L) x 15(W) x 12(H). I had John add a divider at one end where the plumbing and aerator pump go into the tank. So it works out 28" for the well itself, and 8" for the "cooling section". John also welded on splash guards at the front for 2", with the rear splash guard at 4" (extra splash protection when accelerating).

20190310_205459.jpg

20190310_205510.jpg You can see the 1 1/16 hole John drilled out prior to installing the dividing plate.

20190310_205523.jpg The idea with the 8" extension is to fill it with ice and then coil the aerator hose through the ice and then back in at the top of the tank. This will cool the water as it is circulated through the hose. My understanding is that colder water can hold more oxygen, and would be better for the health of the fish.

As things get warmer, I will get this rig put together and then test it to see how well it works prior to framing it in to the boat.

Here is where I got the idea for the cooler livewell:
