Re: 1972 Ranger Bass Boat Restoration Project

Well everyone, I am sorry for no post this last week or so. It has been a crazy week. I had a promising job interview on monday, on tuesday we thought my wife was in labor, and then on thursday the real labor happened and out came a baby girl.

I was finally able to get back to the boat this afternoon. I got it all prepped for the nidabond pour. Tomorrow is going to be 60 degree's, so I am going to get it done then. I will be posting lots of pictures, and maybe even a video or 2. So be watching for those!

More to come tomorrow.....

I poured the Nidabond today and disaster struck! I had just enough material to get the job done, and then 1 of the holes i had taped up on the inside of the transom blew out and it started pouring into the bilge area. I got it sealed but lost almost half of the transom compound. So i am going to be ordering more from nidabond to finish the job. I hate $200 mistakes! I will post pictures of what happened so far in a little while.

thanks.

Well here are the pics from the nidabond pour. I ordered another 5 gallons from them and it will be here in about a week. I am however very impressed with how it set up, even though it has made a mess in the bilge area. This stuff is rock hard, I will feel completely safe about hanging my 135hp off the back when it is finished. I am looking forward to it! Below are the pics of the pour.

Isaacm1986 good looking work there. Hey you know the saying "live and learn"
Well if not for mistakes or mishaps we wouldn't learn anything. Again great looking progress.

Thanks Jim,

I know what to do next time I use the Nidabond. I have always been the kind if guy to learn the hard way, i tend to get into a rush and want things done, then i make mistakes like the Nidabond one. I have been trying to learn to slow down a bit, but it is hard to change the hardwiring of the brain!

I am looking forward to having it done and on the water though.

Well here are a few more recent pics. I got the boat on the trailer today, and back over at my place. I gave her a bath and washed the hull. the trailer needs a lot of work, i think i am just going to look for a new one and scrap this one. It has a cracked frame rail. anyway here are the pics.

Looking good isaac. Congrats on the baby girl! That was our first too and she is 4 already! Enjoy every moment with her!

Shoulda went with the seacast- no where near as liquidy as the nidabond!
J/K- we live and learn from our mistakes! Get it cleaned up and the new stuff in and you'll be good to go.
How did that funnel work for you? It looks familiar:)

Hey micks! We have 2 girls now, the first is almost 2. time does fly!

I am super happy with the results of the nidabond! that stuff is Tough! I am just mad at myself for not taking the extra 5min to make sure all the holes were sealed. oh well, live and learn. I can promise I wont make that mistake twice!

The boat is looking better everytime i do something on it. I am happy with how it is turning out. We will have a lot of fun fishing on it this summer!

Your boat is looking awesome! keep up all the good work!

Re: 1972 Ranger Bass Boat Restoration Project

Thanks. I will get there. I hit a snag with baseball starting up but it will get done. I just purchased my primer and white bottom paint today and am hoping to get it primed and one coat one by the end of the weekend!

I'm the same way with rushing things and having something negative happen as a result! Like you said- it's hard to change that internal wiring:D

Re: 1972 Ranger Bass Boat Restoration Project

Today me and Drew were messing around the our outboards. I hooked up a battery and gas to the little 45hp sears motor, and it fired right up! All i need is find a little boat for that thing and we are rocking! I was pretty excited!

Drew also fired up his merc 115 tower of power for the first time and it ran good as well!
