Re: i386 Boat Restoration. (Crosby Sled)

It looks like a boat again!

That's water beading on the blue. I'd just hosed the drill shavings off from the rubrail. The rivets still need to be set. I did one using a hammer and the back of an axe as a bucking bar. Need to find something with a little more mass to it, but it's going to work just fine.

I am very excited to post these pics...

Got about half of the rivets set this evening. I stopped close to dark because it's pretty loud and didn't want to disturb the neighbors. Also hung the Chrysler 20 on the back. It didn't break off and fall into the driveway so I think that's a good sign the transom is solid.:D I'll get some more pics up tomorrow. It's beginning to look as if she might get wet this weekend!

Still trying to sort out problems with the motors. I mounted the Evinrude 33 and controls. Made a makeshift tiller handle for testing. No power at WOT but did get it on plane once. Definitely need to work on weight distribution. This boat is now VERY light as compared before.

Did a few more things today after I hit a roadblock with the engine.

Got some 1" angle aluminum from Tractor Supply to replace
the old trim. Need to get the hardware to attach it. Stainless
or aluminum bolts I think. Also drilled and installed the
splashwell drain tube. You can see the rope hanging out of it.

My buddy made me a pair of logos based on some photos I sent him.
It's just cut vinyl.

Installed a proper bow eye today too. I'll scrape that 5200 off of it
tomorrow.

33 waits patiently...

Still tweaking and tuning.

I rebuilt the carb in the Evinrude using the OMC kit. It's as good as new. Made a better/safer tiller handle out of 1/2 galv. pipe and fittings. I'm using the control box for throttle/shift. Made it out to the lake again today. Boat got on plane after some high-speed needle adjustment. Boat is porpoising pretty bad. I think part of the problem is that all the weight is in the back. It's me, the 6 gal gas tank and the battery with nothing up front. Also the cavitation plate is 1.75" below the keel. I'm going to make another run in the morning after I raise the motor 1.75 in and put a 5 gal. bucket full of water up front for more weight. We'll see what that does.

Funny thing, I towed a bass boat about 200 yards to the fuel dock at the marina today.:D

Here's a pic over my left shoulder...
