Im helping a friend put his boat back together. His Alpha one outdrive is totally shot. I have a Pre Alpha unit that is ready to bolt on. Would this be a direct bolt on or aren't they compatible without changing out the gimble housing.

Just how "Pre" is your drive? Is it actually a MC1 drive? or Pre'er than that?

Those are photos of an Mercruiser-1 drive (MC-1, 1967 to 1982). Can not be bolted up in place of a Gen II.....

Hi boatnut. It looks like your driveshaft bellows were leaking. U-joints and driveshaft look rusty. The yoke gets rusty where the drive shaft enters the housing. This can cause the oil seal to fail there causing the the upper bearings to go next. Also ujoints & gimbal bearing can get damaged from this too.

I have gen II drive on gen I transom housing, just saying...

Ayuh,... So that means you butchered either the transom assembley, or the drive, 'n whichever 1 it was will no longer fit what it used to fit..

The boat sat outside for about 10 years with no motor in it. I checked the bellows and they are in good shape and the gimbal bearing is free and tight. The seals are going to be replaced before this gets put together but thanks for the advice!
