    Carpet installation tips

Been a while since I've done boat carpet. It's not too hard (especially because I've done it before), but I'm looking for a good how-to or step-by-step guide. I've done a lot of searching on Google, but not seeing anything that great. Anyone have any good links? Thanks!

Lounge seat removal - 1994 Bayliner Capri

I'm looking to replace both seats soon since my original seats have seen better days. Just wondering how the old ones come out - where are the fasteners? Are they an easy swap with new seats of the same type? These are the back-to-back lounge seat type that fold down flat. Bayliner used a...

Alpha One Gen II Impeller Replacement

So I'm gearing up to replace my impeller. I've done it twice since I've owned the boat, but just checked my log and it's been about 4 years since last changed (I know shame on me!). So my question is, should I use the more expensive kit that includes the housing or just the standard kit? Last...

    4.3L V-belt Replacement

Been years since I changed a v-belt and I need to change the alternator belt on my boat. What is the proper tension for both belts? Any other tips for replacement on this engine? Thanks.

Help me find the v-belt I need - alternator

I want to change the v-belt on my 1994 4.3 that runs the alternator, but I'm having a hard time finding the part number. The schematic I'm looking at is throwing me off since the belt is not on the alternator page, rather it's on the Intake Manifold-Front Cover page. However, the v-belt for...

Refilling gear lube after impeller job

I dropped the lower unit on my Alpha 1 Gen II today and replaced the impeller. I didn't drain the gear oil prior to removing the lower unit. The gear oil was changed recently and is good. I'm wondering if I need to add fluid with a pump from the bottom up or I can just pull the vent plug and...

Quick oil change question - need a pump...

I'm gearing up to do my first oil change (annual) on my boat since I've owned it. I would like a recommendation on a quality oil pump to buy. I've looked at a few (manual vs. electric) and found mixed reviews. Can someone recommend a pump that will do the job good and won't break the first...

Distributor cap and rotor replacement 4.3LX

This is for a 1994 4.3LX. The service manual mentions the rotor being held in place with loctite and the need to pry or apply gentle heat to remove it. Is it a pain to mess with? I've done plenty of distributor caps/rotors in my day, but never needed to pry one off. Any tips? Thanks :)

    Carpet replacement tips

I'm getting ready to replace the carpet in my boat. I know the basics, but would like to get as much information as possible to hopefully help the installation go smoothly. If there are any tips please post them here. My first question has to do with choosing new carpet. I've looked online...

    Help with bimini top...

I'm trying to purchase a top for my '94 Bayliner 1850 Capri. I'm torn between having one custom built and buying pre-built. I've already spoken to the custom shop and they will build me a 3 bow with all stainless fittings for around $425. I'm thinking I really need a 4 bow for extra shade and...

    Gluing bunk pads/carpet...

I see Bass Pro sells the pads and I was all set to glue and staple some new pads on my bunks, but I have one question. How long does the glue need to set before getting it wet? If I launch the boat then go do the work in the parking lot and then pull the boat back out of the water I don't...

    Information on Eldocraft boats

Does anyone know the history or have any information on Eldocraft boats? They are no longer in business and stopped making boats in the early 80's as far as I know. My dad picked up a '79 Eldocraft bass boat cheap and has been having a good time fixing it up. I've been Googling information...

Help with trim pump '79 V175

My dad has been having problems with his trim pump. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. When it decides not to work he taps the motor with a wrench and it starts working again. What usually causes this? He wants to replace it, but they are hard to find or very expensive. Can the motor...

    Drilling fiberglass with hole saw

I need to drill a 1 1/8" hole in the fiberglass of my boat to install a plug receptacle. Can I accomplish this with a standard hole saw without problems? The fiberglass is about 1/4" thick. I've read about starting the hole with the drill in reverse to prevent the gel coat from chipping. Is...

Prop ding and performance (pics added)

So I just got another aluminum prop (remanufactured), but unfortunately it arrived with a very small ding/tweak in one of the blades. Looks like it happened during shipping. Will this be a big deal? Like I mentioned it's very minor, but still noticeable. I almost wonder if I could heat it...

Shim material for trolling motor mount

What is a good shim material that can be used when shimming a trolling motor mount? I don't have a perfectly flat surface and will need to shim a bit to make everything work. I've heard of using the composite material from a trolling motor shaft, but I don't have any access to that. PVC pipe...

Bolting a bow mount trolling motor

I'm planning to install a bow mount trolling motor (Minn Kota Powerdrive V2) on my '94 Bayliner Capri 1850 LS. Now that I'm starting to look at things I realize it's going to be somewhat of a challenge. The bow has fiberglass that comes down and does not give me access to attach a bolt with a...

Hub kit or no hub kit?

What is preferred? Is the function of the hub kit just to protect the drive shaft in case you hit something? If you had a choice to purchase a prop with or without the hub kit what would you choose? Thanks

Does the shift cable assembly include the slide?

Part number 865436A02 Is a new slide and set screw included? I have a feeling I may need a new slide and screw since mine look to be welded together from corrosion. I've been soaking the parts with Kroil, but at some point I'm gonna need to bear down and try to get things apart. I'm...
