What is a good shim material that can be used when shimming a trolling motor mount? I don't have a perfectly flat surface and will need to shim a bit to make everything work.

I've heard of using the composite material from a trolling motor shaft, but I don't have any access to that. PVC pipe comes to mind. What else? Preferably something I can get locally (i.e. Home Depot, Lowes, etc.), but I will order from somewhere like www.mcmaster.com if there is a superior product.

Thanks

Your local hardware store or home center generally has a series of drawers full of specialty stuff like bushings, washers, plugs, spacers, etc. Look for some thick rubber washers. You don't want hard material as this will mark the finish of your boat.

Good idea on rubber bushings or washers. I should be able to shape and form them as needed too.
