zip ties

on my 70 hp merc it has zip ties on the gas lines is this common or should i put hose clamps on them

Zip ties are fine just make sure you get them on the smaller part of the fitting and not over the flare. There are zip ties with a metal tounge that hold a little better and there are plastic squeeze clamps that Merc sends out in some repair kits. I personally like the metal tounged ones. If I have to go from 3/8 down to 5/16 then I used a regular metal hose clamp.
