It's incredible how we "civilised" countries of the world sit by and let this sort of thing continue to happen in certain places on our planet.

Maybe I'm ignorant, but isn't the United Nations supposed to give the worlds citizens some kind of protection against this type of mini-Hitler ?

It's about time the UN grew some teeth IMHO.

2 million homeless after Mugabe crackdown

03.06.05 5.20am

Nearly two million people in Zimbabwe's towns and cities have been left homeless, and a further 22,000 street traders have been arrested as President Robert Mugabe intensified a crackdown on opposition strongholds.

...
Well, we know the UN didn't do anything about Saddam in Iraq. What makes you think they are going to do anything for anyone else? To me, the UN is worthless and have been for awhile now. I think it is going to get worse as time goes on.

No argument here. Agreed. The UN is a UNIC.

However, they do not want (for now) to blow up American cities.

For now, our priorities are right-IMHO. You can only do so much, at one time. President Clinton COMPLETELY ignored it, among other pressing issues, eg; terrorism.

But, that's OK. Now we know it's OK to get "Lewinski's" in the Oval Office.

God help us.

Note:

For the Lib's out there. I will always refer to past and present presidents by their "proper" moniker. Get an idea. The "whining and carping" is getting old.

The UN is useless. They have completly forgotton why they were formed in the first place... to prevent another Hitler.

The best they can do is sanctions. Like those evil dictators care, they got money, thats all they care about.

Ken

What the hell does that have to do with Zimbabwe?
The UN most definitely should keep out of it, if not the American taxpayer will end up footing the bill.
Let the people of Zimbabwe sort out their own mess, we are not the cause of their crap

The sad truth of it is, Zimbabwe has nothing we in the so-called "civilized world" need; like oil, other natural resourses, skilled labor, ect. ...

Real civilized, huh?.....
:(

Ken,

Nice thought, it won't work.

The US citizen is to used to cheap foreign labor and products offered by foreign companies/ownership. We want what we want and we want it cheap. We're spoiled. We are unwilling to pay our neighbor to produce it. If, we even know our neighbor. Most don't and don't want to.

Is the US system breaking-YES!!!!

We all need to be less greedy (materialism) and get back individualism pulling for a common goal. That goal is the success of the US and its citizens. That may sound like socialism, but, it's not. America is different in that we used to, look up to those that "made it" thinking we can all do the same. Today, we villianize those that "made it". As I've said before, I've NEVER worked for a poor man.

That's the difference.

Rhodesia was once a British colony that choose not to be governed by Britain way back in the sixties, they adopted an aparthied system of government which failed approx twenty years later, they then went to majority rule and elected Mr Mugabe, who then decided to lead the country away from true democratic values, therefore the corrupted dictator Mugabe and his cohorts is the problem that zimbabwe has, they need to fix that themselves, it is nothing to do with who has or have'nt oil.

Is there anything else to be said, after that?

Maybe so. Saddam was one in the same.

But, do WE care.

I think NOT!

Man, I am completely confused.

To sum up my position, the big teeth of the UN (a.k.a. the USA and the UK) are kinda busy right now. Let the rest of the world fix Zimbawae.

As for them fixing themselves, that is a very harsh statement. It is hard for them to fight without weapons.

Ken

Don't put your head in the sand.

Nobody kills that many without weapons, of some kind.

"Weapons" can be included as:

1. Hatred.

2. Machetes.

3. Knives

4. Swords.

5. Starvation.

That's just mentioning a few.

Numbers 1 and 5 are the preffered weapons of despots, throughout the world. They're cheap and tend to feed on themselves.

What I meant is that it is hard for the little people to fight against the evil dictators if they have no weapons.

Ken

Ken,

Indeed.

However, they tend to turn them on their own liberators. A slippery slope.

France and Germany come to mind here.

Re: Zimbabwe - time something was done

The people that are being treated most un fairly are the white african farmers who have operated their family farms for generations.
The Mugabe government are allowing the black africans to squat on, and run them off of their farms, Mr Mugabe calls that land reform,
some may argue that the shoe is on the other foot now, since the previous generation of white folks did'nt purchase the land from the rightful owners in the first place,
This is not an American responsiblity to rectify, Don't we have enough of our own problems? I think so.

Shhhhh!

We can't talk about that. White=bad/black=good.

Not a racist here (I dare anyone to call me that, to my face), just a realist.

DJ, Those are just the facts, i have no opinion on their inequities other than Zimbabwe is not America's problem.

I cannot see how it IS Americas problem. I thought the English (UK) ruled over those territories for years?

Not passing blame here, "just don't throw it where you don't know where it's going to land".

It doesn't matter. It's awful.

Maybe some "emerging" countries might want to help out. China? Former Soviet Union? South Korea? I'm not holding my breath.

They'll, gladly, take ALL the economic praise yet will do NOTHING when it comes time for justice. Too many skeletons, in the closet, is my guess.

But, WE DON'T CARE.
