The parking lot at Dearborns truck plant just got a little more exclusive, It may be used only by employees who drive Ford vehicles, or vehicles built by one of its subsidiaries, Says plant manager Rob Webber and was Applauded by Jerry Sullivan president of United AutoWorkers Local 600

I consider myself a super patriot. One who believes that America can do whatever it sets it's mind to do. One who believes that even though Americans might make mistakes our heart is always in the right place.

This move, if true, does no one any justice and certainly does not solve any of the problems that Ford may be having.

If I were employed by Ford, I would say **** you and the unions you are in bed with and would be down the road faster than the blink of an eye. ...and believe me I don't use the word **** very often.

I currently own a '05 Lincoln LS, one '65 Ford Mustang, one '97 Ford E150, one 302 powered boat, one '91 Toyota Previa Van, one '94 Chevrolet Suburban. I've previously owned two Ford Taurus's, one '88 Mercury Grand Marquis, one '64 Ford Galaxie Wagon, one '62 Ford Sedan and one '56 Ford Sedan. My whole family owned Fords. My son even drives an '88 Ford Crown Vic.

I would not stand, for a minute, my employer telling me what I could drive to work.

Amen Boom. I also come from an almost exclusive Ford household. If they told me that I would swap the Ford off just to buy a chebbie.

Ford is not the first manufacturer to have implemented
restrictions on parking with competitor products.

Just to be fair... they aren't saying you can't drive it to work.... they are just saying you can't park it on their privately owned property.

Does it suck, yes.

Do I have a problem with it, no.... it's their parking lot.

Very big of you KRS! That is no different than the Company Store attitude or the Union mentality that we have striven to be rid of.

Well... it IS their land, right?

I know it's a bit of a stretch and a little childish.. but they COULD say starting Monday you can only park here if you ride a yellow unicycle, and that's their right.

I'm for "property owners rights" more than "employees want to park on someone else's land" rights.

Every bank I have ever worked for requires direct deposit. They will not direct deposit into another bank, it must be with my employer.... effecively forcing me to bank with them, if even to receive my payroll and transfer it somewhere else.

This example is much less supported (in my view) than Ford's, in that my employer is doing it to control payroll disputes/problems and create loyalty to the bank. Ford however owns the property and has that right, legally and (in my opinion) ethically.

I am sure there are other examples, but I wanted to share this personal one.

It's not 'childish' KRS, it is provencial. And provencial is not what built this country even though many used it over the decades. It is also perfectly legal but so is abortion. How many have been well served by that legal activity??

Your comparisons aren't making your point.

I understand our viewpoints differ, and I respect that.

I also have never worked for a factory and been subject to the constant pressure of their thumb. I'm sure it isn't pleasant, not does it feel fair at times.

But their rights as property owners are just that.

Again, they aren't telling their employees what they can own/drive they are telling them what brand of vehicles are allowed on the company's property.

I wonder how many employees will exercise their right to vote on the subject.... and quit their jobs to make their displeasure known?

Re: You better be driving a Ford

It's just like my union brothers giving me flack for my Hyundai, partialy owned by Chrysler. One of the boys owns a Geo Tracker, made where?

Back in 84 I had a delivery to the GM plant in Janesville back when they were making that POS Cimmaron. I had the new Honda CRX we used for "specials" and backed it into the inside docks to unload the couple of boxes. The thugs surrounded it and I didn't think I was going to be driving back that day. That car was a blast to drive 21 years ago. Haven't seen GM put out anything like it in those 21 years that was both fun to drive and got close to 37 mpg.

Boomyal,
I agree with ya on how stupid this seems on Fords part. But as stated it is their property, and they have the right to control it as they see fit (or miss-fit). Seems the same as instituting a tobacco free work place. It's their choice their right. No matter how stupid it seems from a logical stand point.

This is not new with the big 3's plants and offices around here. Not sure on the specifics of this one, but most of the facilities have multiple lots and "competitor" vehicles are only allowed in lots further away from the buildings entrances.

Like DaleT said... nothing new other than it's a FORD person stating this. In the past the UAW thugs... I mean enforcement personnel... took care of this.

I know here at the JEEP plant, if you drive a ricer or euro trash onto the lot, you will return to find only the shell of a car in the parking space. At least at JEEP, you can drive any American built car or truck on the lot.

I just ain't right. Its like saying that if you work in a dress factory you better be wearing a dress to work. Or if you work at McDonald's you and bring your lunch to work you have to leave to eat it. BS I was considering a ford Fusion but no more.
