Yet another tilt electrical issue

I have a 93 Johnson V4 90HP. Its been sitting at my old mans unused for about 7 years before i convinced him to let me use it. The tilt was originally only going up, i switched the relays round and it would go down. Brought a new relay but it was wrong, 2 pins were round the wrong way.

Went to try again with the old relays and now it wouldnt get any power at all. Cleaned up all the contacts on the relays, the wires going into the board below the relays and the power feed plugs to the tilt motor. Managed to get it to go up for a second then nothing at all again, clicking relays. This is all using the switch on the motor, the remote switched stopped working at the time of the incorrect relay.

The starter had power this whole time.

Put 2 new correct relays in tonight and now i can constantly get the tilt to go up and just clicks on the way down. Nothing from the remote switch. Dropped the motor down by releasing the manual valve. I feed the motor wires power and negative directly from the battery to the plug and it goes up and down so the motor is obviously ok.

Im guessing the issue then lies in the wiring from the relay to the motor since it clicks when the switch is pushed down. Is that correct or can it still be an issue with the wiring between starter where the power comes in and the relay?

Also what would cause the remote switch to not work? The starter works off the key so power is getting that far? Im yet to pull that switch apart and check for power.

Sorry for the long post but i searched and read a stack of posts which has helped me troubleshoot to this point.

Appreciate any help

Re: Yet another tilt electrical issue

Probably not going to help a bit; but my problem with the going up or down has always been the connector between the relay box and the motor itself. One of the blades would not make contact. Also when the relay clicks and no movement have you tapped the motor with a small hammer ? The brushes may be trying to stick. Good luck
