Re: Yet another boat launch idiot

It's a long ramp-nearly 50 metres and a very shallow angle. He was tied to the left hand marker pole for the end of it swinging across there as the wind gusted.

Not in the way enough to block the ramp, just in the way enough to cause everyone a problem, and the only other things launching were jetskis.

BTW, I must thank the guy on a jetski who stopped, anchored his ski and helped my girlfriend bring the trailer down. I doubt he'll read this, but thanks mate!

I think the problem is that being courteous isn't something that can be learned. It's a fundamental part of maturity.Maybe they're parents didn't hug them enough.....around here at the ramps it's dog eat dog. This past week-end I had a little motor trouble so I pulled closer to the bank and pulled the hood of the Ol' Merc.I figure 10 or so boats blew by me.You know how many slowed down to see if me and the kids needed help?1 older fella' in a brand new Sea Rat(y)I'm tellin' ya'....I consider playing around on my boat with my kids fun, right? Is it still called recreation?.Boating is a great mind eraser.(I hadda' give up the booze.)The thing is I actually feel sorry for alot of these people I see at the ramps, running around all stressed out. It's too bad that they can't relax more.(Next episode;"Your 200 horse Bass Boat and the a**holes which pilot them")Later,C.C.

Re: Yet another boat launch idiot

I can really top the ramp stupid users, my local ramp is rather larger but is sort of on an 'island" (kinda) it has a big turning and reversing area and three lanes, there is also a large parking area a short distance away, but, to get to the "island" there is only a single lane road across a small concrete bridge, now what happens is that if you do not wait your turn and start to go over the bridge before there is a space for you to use the ramp you get a situation where the cars that are launching cannot get back to park and you cannot get down to launch, see what is going to happen!! on a busy day (Sunday) the cars and trailers back up very quick and then it is mayhem with abuse and hot heads all trying to use the ramp or leave the ramp after launching, some quite intersting times I can tell you!

You have reminded me to send a thanks to the two gentlemen that helped my wife and 11 year old son get things under control while I was parking the trailer the other day.

In addition I do believe there is a special place in hell for the two goons tied up to the space closest to the ramp. No tow vehicle in sight and lots of boats trying to lauch and leave having to go around them.

Shipoffools, the same thing happened today when we were trying to put in. There was a boat tied up in the courtesy ramp for at least 30 minutes with no one in sight! That on top of 25mph winds and about 3 out of 4 people not having their gear ready until they are on the ramp kind of ruins the "stress relieving" of fishing.

Re: Yet another boat launch idiot

I got revenge on one of those inconsiderate line cutters about 1 1/2 years ago. Three of us were waiting to put in or take out. He comes from out of nowhere, cuts all of us off, and backs onto the ramp. We all say something and he counters "Well, nobody was here when I got here." Yes, nobody was on the ramp since the last guy just left as he pulled up. Anyway, with all of us angry, he quickly dumped his boat in, then drove off to park. As soon as his truck left, I backed in. When he got back to his boat, he realized he left his plug out in his haphazard rush. He screamed for me to move as his boat was sinking and I was now on the ramp. I politely told him that it was my turn on the ramp, and he was third in line after the other two boats. He would have to wait his turn as did we. The other two boaters heard this and laughed since the knew where his boat was tied is only about 15 inches deep...and because he deserved it. They then complimented me on my "brilliant handling of the situation."

Great! So he was in a big rush, was he? Left his plug out, did he? So sad.

That's why I'm so careful about prepping in the parking lot. I have a mental checklist I run through twice, just to make sure I don't do something stupid like that.

Then, I wait until there's a clear window of time and launch.

WE like morons they are so much fun to watch, a couple of weeks ago where a local ramp goes down into the beach at low tide, we had a que jumper he drove his humugus american 4x4 down the ramp turned round to put his jetski's into the sea parked it up on the beach part blocking the ramp, when asked if he would move it to allow others to use the ramp, well the prophanities that followed hum hum!!anyway his family buggered off on their jetski's to play and hadnt noticed the tide was coming in, so me tring to be the good samariton i went along to where they where playing to tell them, all i got was the V'S so i went back to look at the fun as the tide was getting around the 4x4's wheels and being sand it started to sink, oh what fun when they returned.

In response to riverkid's post and all the reponses, maybe judging them as the Nerd family shows some insight into why the smarta$$ responses to the dad. Boat launch etiquette goe sboth ways. Dad was being polite, only to be put on the defensive. But then with the spectator judging them, nothing they did would have been right. As for parking 100 yds away, maybe that was the responsible thing to do. Would you rather him park next to you and drag his trailer down the side of your truck?

As for the trophies, I once had a neighbor who would continually park in the handicapped spot outsid ethe apartment bldg instead of a regular spot farther away. So after mentioning this to her, the management, leaving notes etc. I removed the valve stems and super glued them to her windshield. And once I was waiting for parking spot at Meijers (a regional versin of Walmart with better employee treatment) with my turnsignal on, so it was clear I was waiting for THAT spot. A jerk in a BMW cuts in in front of me and jumps out. I was mad but would have sworn it off. But he had to smile and wave at me as he walked in. I found a spot the next aisle over on the other side of the aisle. I had some heavy BLACK grease in my car so I took a handful and left him a surprise under his doorhandle. Ironically I left shortly before he did and could see him as he found my little surprise. I just had to way and smile as I went by. Oooohh Sweeet justice. :D

Re: Yet another boat launch idiot

Had one yesterday. 2 ramps where I launch, and a line. Ramp 1 had a guy with an empty trailer, ramp2 has a guy trying to launch.

Rampe 2 guys (3 of them) can't get boat off trailer. It goes about 2 feet and stops. They go back and forth, back and forth. Park ranger is trying to help them. "Did you leave the stern tie downs on?" "no sir". Back and forth.

Wanna guess what the problem was? Heck, we all do stupid stuff, but someone asks a half dozen times maybe a quick check was in order.

Meanwhile other guy is on the ramp this whole time. Finally ranger gets first yahoos launched and my buddy (floating 50 feet away waiting for space) asks the ranger about ramp 1 guy. Ranger asks and ramp 1 guy replies he is waiting for his buddy to come by, any time now. He would have been happy to sit there for another 30 minutes or so !@!

What a moron. Thank god ranger is there to tell this guy to move, not sure I could have held back with that response.

It goes to show some folks do care about others or use that mellon of a brain to think.
