Yet another 3 wire 2 wire tilt trim question.

I'm not the most electrically inclined individual so with that in mind here's my question: Can I wire up a 3 wire t&t motor in a 2 wire fashion with 2 relays and have it operate properly? I have tried to do this and it does not seem to operate properly, I tracked it down to 12 volts feeding through and shorting on the wire thats not supposed to be fed at the moment. Is this to be expected? Or is my motor shorting and feeding through?
