Actually, 4412 IS the model number. What you have there, crashtruck is a 1946 2hp Evinrude. Cute little thing. Does it run yet?

Parts are a bit dicey for that oldster, but you can check with aomci.org for assistance in that area.

Now, what you need is a little 8' rowboat to hang that guy on and you can amaze the guys bass fishing at the farm pond. Fun!

It might just surprise you. You'll want to mix some fresh oil and gas. I'd start with 16:1 for that old eggbeater. Clean out the tank as best you can...fresh fuel helps, but dump any you use to do the cleaning. Pull the float bowl off the carb and clean it up, too, and make sure the needle and seat are working.

Now this is pretty controversial, but on something like this, I give the cylinder a shot of WD-40 through the plug hole. I know...I'm going to catch it for not going through a three hour routine to make sure everything's in order, but what the heck!

Check to see if you've got spark. If so...fill that tank with freshly mixed fuel and give it a few pulls in a barrel with water over the lower unit.

It's amazing how many of these old motors come right back to life. A spray bottle with fuel:eek:il mix in it can be handy, too. A spray down the carb can coax a balky one back to life, too.

Good luck. Not much to lose.

Excellent! I'll bet your wife's grandfather stored the motor just fine in the garage. Probably emptied the tank and ran the carburetor dry. People took care of their stuff way back then.

Two bits says it'll run pretty easily. Old Ole Evinrude will be smiling somewhere when it fires up.

I mean it about the little 8' rowboat. Lots of fun.

Your best bet is to go to eBay and search past auctions for your outboard. Typically, these 40's small engines don't bring that much, especially if you don't know if they run.

Collectors are really into older engines than that, I'm afraid. Evinrudes from the teens and twenties bring the biggest bucks, but even then, it's not that big a deal.

There are so many of these, and so few collectors, that only the most historical of old outboards bring more than a few hundred dollars.

Yours might bring a couple hundred or so...maybe more if it's immaculate with original decals in excellent condition and it was running perfectly.

Sorry...no fortune in a 1946 2hp Evinrude.
