2000 XL Wave Runner has 84 hours, set up for 4 years because wife was sick and passed from battle with cancer. Drained gas, changed plugs, started, took to lake it would crank and idle fine out to bouy's, attempt to take off it would die, set for a minute, crank right back up and idle fine back to trailer (twice). Attempt to start 8 months later at home, would not start, took to shop, diagnostic check, compression check 120 on rear 160 on other and he said nothing but not to run it, bring it back in a couple of months????
2001 XL 800 same as above with 52 hours cranks and runs fine.
Any thoughts 0n 2000 model and compression, problem thoughts, recommendations??
Thanks in Advance

Undoubtedly a carb issue or fuel delivery thing.
mom a side note. Your compression gauge is telling porky pies. No way one of the cylinders is 160. 120 would be as new. I’ve rebuilt one of these not long ago. If you’re genuinely getting 160 psi…you’ve got some water or fuel sitting in there. But unlikely at that.
If you haven’t tackled the carbs by next time out. See what happens if you pull the choke on as it does this.
Not for accusing you of a mistake, but often this kind of thing can simply be caused by the in line directional fuel filter being on the wrong way. Very easy to do, as they are set up. You’d think the fuel comes a certain direction when you look in the front at the fuel filter…but it comes the opposite direction than what you would assume in there. With it going to the fuel isolator/reserve valve first off.
