yamaha wiring short

A freind and I bought 90hp yamahas #90tjrz.<br />We both mounted them on all aluminum boats.<br />He runs a straight 12 volt system and I have two 12 volt batteries in series to run a 24 volt trolling motor. One of my two batteries also serves as my cranking battery.<br />On seperate occasions the steel corrosion wire attached to the motor mount on the bottom unit of both motors has burned in two. Can anyone help us?

This is going to be a hard one on the internet. Several things to check. Would like to see a diagram of how you have it wired? Charging system working ok? Your anodes look ok? If it were me I would add a battery selector switch or an isolator to the system. DO you keep it in the water? Using it in saltwater?
