Yamaha Stalling

Hi All:
Hey I have a 2006 Yamaha 250 HPDI. It is now stalling on acceleration. It will start great, and will run 75 no problem. But under power trying to come on plane it cuts out. I can get it to plane if I go slow to do it. But put the power to it and it will cut out. I can pour it to her once it is on plane and no problem. I changed the fuel seperator, and I changed the plugs still the same. I had another boat that had a similar problem and had to change the power pack. I was wondering if anyone had a idea that it might be the same? Anyone with help would really be apperciated. Thanks All.

electronic ign issues are rare.
check high pressure rail pressure,change the medium pressure inline filter and clean the VST filter.

Hi All:
Just wanted to post a reply as to what the problem was. Rodbolt hit the nail on the head. I checked pressure and had about 45 to 50 lbs at idle. Hit the throttle and the pressure dropped like a rock. I found that the screen in the metal case had a clear like film on it. I sprayed it with brake cleaner and put all back together and she runs like the rocket ship it was before. Just great. Maybe Rodbolt will let everyone know which filter this is for future referance. How much you want to bet it had something to do with ethenol. I used the blue ethenol treatment and the carbon gaurd religiously.

that screen in the aluminium tank is the vapor seperator.
its also now time to chane the medium pressure inline filter between the VST and the high pressure pump.
DO NOT use a standard hose clamp on reassembly.
REMEMBER your dealing with a system thats designed to maintain 50 PSI.
it can go over 100 PSI.
fuel leaks at 50 PSI are not pretty.
use the correct clip and a pair of CV boot clamp pliers on reassembly.

I am having the same symptoms, can you tell me exactly where that screen is located and do you have the parts number for the medium pressure inline filter.

I had the same problem with my 2006 200 HPDI cutting out, lack of power and would die at accelerating from take off( could not use full throddle on take off would die, had to accelerate slowly). After I made several trips to my mechanic, and him dealing with yamaha techs, because, my motor was still under warranty, and to make a long story short, it turn out to be the low pressure fuel pump was bad and wasn't feeding enough fuse to the high pressure fuel pumps. This was after Yamaha asked him to remove and send back the High Pressure fuel pumps to be rebuilted, which took for ever it seem like. Finally I had my boat back on the water just to find out it had the same problem only worse. The high pressure fuel pumps cost around $650 each to rebuilt I was told you have 2. The cost of a low pressure fuel pump is around $30. OUCH! which totally fixed the problem. Let me say that this may not be the fix for your problem, but worth checking out.
